Georgia wants Russian bases shut down

"The government of Georgia Wednesday repeated its demand that Russia close two military peacekeeping bases in Batumi and Akhalkalaki.

At a news conference, Foreign Minister Salome Zurabilshvili said the bases had "lost their strategic significance," the RIA Novosti news agency reported.

Her remarks came one month after her first demand.

"No one needs these bases. Georgia does not need either these or other bases," Zurabishvili said at a news conference May 6 after talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov."

Of course, Putin will offer every excuse in the book, and George will never say a thing about it. Autonomy apparently has nothing to do with freedom or democracy.

Well, I guess you learn something new every day.
