A Look at U.S. Military Deaths in Iraq

As of Wednesday, June 9, 826 U.S. service members have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq last year, according to the Defense Department. Of those, 608 died as a result of hostile action and 218 died of non-hostile causes.

The British military has reported 58 deaths; Italy, 18; Spain, eight; Bulgaria and Poland, six each; Ukraine, four; Slovakia three; Thailand, two; Denmark, El Salvador, Estonia, Latvia and the Netherlands have reported one each.

Since May 1, 2003, when President Bush declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, 688 U.S. soldiers have died - 499 as a result of hostile action and 189 of non-hostile causes, according to the military's numbers as of Wednesday.

That these soldiers are not cardboard cutout figures or little plastic green men. When they die they are mourned by wives, children, parents, siblings. . .friends . . .

I think President Bush uses them like playthings. He doesn't give a second thought to the consequences (to soldiers) of his actions. They are toys and statistics to him, not people.

It is really sickening. But we have to keep thinking about it -- so we can strengthen our resolve to get this idiot out of office.
