'Barbarians at the gate,' warns Vancouver mayor
MONTREAL - Vancouver Mayor Larry Campbell has appealed to other big city mayors to support anyone but Conservative leader Stephen Harper in the upcoming federal election.
"I mean we're talking traditional right-wing government. That's the barbarians at the gate.
"It's unthinkable that we would go back," says Campbell. "I mean he wants to take us back to the 50s."

1. Think of the repuke spin in the Lower 48

if the Cons win.

Bukkkanan: "At last we've liberated Soviet Canuckistan!"

O'Really: "See what happens to people when they mess with me?"

and of course, Bush*:

"See? It doesn't matter any more that my good friend Mr. Anzar got beaten in Spain. Our new Canadian allies and neighbors to the... uh, east?... and their new prime minister, Jean Poutine, will pick up the slack and send us plenty of cannon fodder so we can keep on invad... uh, liberating countries around the wor... uh, Middle East."

But seriously, I am deeply concerned that many Canadians seem to be more intent on boxing Mr. Martin about the ears than on maintaining a safe, Bush*-free zone within North America above the 49th parallel.

Edit: Again, seriously, Bush* could spin a Con win as "evidence" that the rest of the world is turning back to his -- PNAC's, rather -- imperialist world view. We can't have that. We just can't.

2. He's only partly right.
The "Conservatives" would not deliver a "traditional right-wing government", at least not as Canada's known it. They're Bushian crypto-Christian radicals.

3. Exactly!
There are no conservatives left, they were all taken over by the faux conservatives who are, in fact, repub wannabes.

4. great analogy by Margaret Atwood recently ...
They are "body snatchers" who have sucked the life out of the old Tories and are now prancing around, trying on the hollowed-out skins of Sir John A. and Dief the Chief.

10. They Are One
And the same.
Brian forced the PC together with the Reform and is behind the whole thing. H. Segal is steering Steven H. and he doesn't realize it yet.
Wait until the grass roots realize that they have been taken over by the Irish Eyes guys and his mafia.
Joe Who thinks that Harper doesn't realize what is happening.

5. Agree
What was once a credible political party started to head for the shit heap after Dogballs Mulroney ran things into the ground. Joe Clark at least let the party some dignity. Stephen Harper is a knob and there ain't no way he is not going to follow in Bushco's path. Martin and the Liberals sure as hell aren't that great (we tend to get left behind out here in Scratch-yer-ass-ewan) but at least I'm willing to give them a chance.

7. Too late, Conservatives will form the next government
Thanks to all those attacks by Layton and Duceppe on Paul Martin the Liberals they are tanking in the polls. The Bloc could care less, they have a Faustian deal in the works with the Conservatives, with Duceppe even going as far as praising Harper twice this week. Now why would a "Progressive Socialist" come to the defense of a Conservative?

Layton was blindsided by Conservatives rise in the polls, spending most of his energy on wisecracks and pithy jokes at Martin expense.

Granted Paul Martin isn't perfect but all the attacks did is energize the Conservatives and the Bloc, good luck.
