GOOD NEWS: U.S. marshals begin patrolling Dem convention site

http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2004/06/10/judge_deploys_marshals_to_ensure_access_isnt_blocked_to_convention_site/

Don't panic folks - this is a situation where the Boston policemen's union (with republican leanings - endorsed Bush Sr. over Dukakis) is trying to intimidate the democratic mayor and the other unions/workers by forcing them to not cross the picket lines. Who is going to cross these police. The union violated a court order (you had on-duty patrolmen monitoring off-duty patrolmen who were picketing) - this new order puts the federal marshals in charge

"After two days of angry confrontations and stalled work, U.S. District Judge Joseph Tauro told the police union not to "get cute" with a court order issued last week, which allowed them to hand out leaflets on FleetCenter property to protest stalled contract negotiations with the city.

Since Tuesday, when work at the arena was supposed to start, the police union and its allies have surrounded workers and trucks that have tried to enter the site, shouting at them to "go home" and physically standing in their way. Most ultimately turned away."

2. I don't want US Marshalls in Boston....
they're probably there to quash the imminent protests during the convention, and if these protests are stopped with Seattle and Miami techniques our party has become just like the Republican party, corporate owned. The issues that are important to the American people must take center stage. John Kerry must denounce the war and commit to withdrawal, and he must urge Boston leaders to allow the protests.

3. oh, and it's called a labor dispute...
you know, workers strike for better wages/compensation, the boss pretends it's nonnegotiable, and then both sides are supposed to compromise in the end. It's called collective bargaining, and it's actually constitutionally free speech:

4. Did you read the part about a court order?
Bush is not above the law - but neither are unions.

8. Correct me if I'm wrong but...
(and excuse me for my absence) but the Judiciary has no right to placate itself in matters such as these, whether or not it is written as law. I'm saying that the Judge is misinterpreting the constitution when he gets involved in this matter, the first amendment protects them. AMENDMENT ONE: no room for confusion on which one it is.

10. Ummmm,...the 1st Amendment protects officers who are harming,...
,...public interests? Is that what you are saying?

And, laws which have been created in accordance with constitutional provisions,...have no place in this country? Is that what you are saying?

These arguments ring a bell. I seem to have heard them before.

6. The Boston cops are evil.
This is nothing but a rag on Kerry. They are the highest paid around. I remember when the state dems. had a convention in Springfield, MA the cops came out then and picked the convention. Instructed by ron kaufman. I hate him as much as karl rove. I think andy card was involved too. One cop yelled in my face and I gave him the finger. He was bull. I hid it from everyone but him. I was willing to let him hit me just to cause a problem. Th boston cops should be fired. They don't have a union its a terrorist group.

13. And I suppose you have another candidate in mind?
I remind you, the Democratic voters chose Kerry. Put that in your pipe and smoke it. He is the nominee. There is no other choice and he is the only choice to rid us of bush, or maybe you don't want that? Maybe you would like to keep your exaggerated anti-war principles all through WW3 under Dumbya?

5. No - They Are There To Make Sure the Convention Gets Built
This is dispute about the construction work that has to be done in order to have a convention. It is not about the convention itself.
