Cohen Drops US Senate Bid (NH)

Does anybody know what the heck is going on here?

Cohen drops U.S. Senate bid one day before filing period ends
By JAMES W. PINDELL
PoliticsNH.com

June 10 – State Sen. Burt Cohen (D-New Castle) is ending his bid for the U.S. Senate just one day before the period for candidates for that office to sign up ends.

"Burt Cohen will not be filing for the U.S. Senate," Cohen spokeswoman Meghan Scott said. "There is a situation with the campaign and we thought that it would be unfair to the party to continue."

<snip>

State Democratic Party chair Kathy Sullivan is reportly working the phone to find a candidate. There is an informal list of four names rumored to be called.

1. Perhaps someone was scared off or paid off??
That really reeks.. Anyone who entered now, would not even have enough time to raise money to compete..

I think it's way past time for the DNC to get its shit together, and start challenging these "safe" repubes.. but they must be challeneged early....often...and they must be well financed..

3. DailyKos is betting on a scandal. I'm with him.
This sounds like scandal material if I've ever heard it. Damn, we could have picked up a Senate seat, now it looks like the Pugs get a free ride.
