Cassini set for moon encounter


The flyby will show whether Phoebe is

The Cassini spacecraft, which is en route to Saturn, is about to make a close pass of the ringed planet's mysterious moon Phoebe.

Phoebe is 220km across and Cassini's images of it will be far superior to ones from Voyager 2 in 1981.

Already, tall sunlit peaks and deep shadowy craters have been seen in the approach pictures.

The US-European spacecraft will make its closest approach to the Saturnian moon at 2156 BST.
