Some Washington residents in doubt about Reagan legacy
http://www.mcall.com/news/local/all-a3_5sowhatjun11,0,5077381.story?coll=all-newslocal-hed

excerpt:

But for the people who call this bustling city home, the pomp and circumstance marking the passing of the nation's 40th president also took on a more mundane dimension, one of closed streets, snarled traffic, befuddled tourists and a headache of a commute.

''All anybody is talking about is the traffic,'' said Lisa Schreiber, 32, who owns a dog daycare business in the city's slowly gentrifying Logan Circle neighborhood. ''It's annoying.''

<snip>

Nor was David Tenney, the co-owner of Kramer Books and Afterwords, a landmark political bookstore here. He posted a sign in his shop window that read, ''To Commemorate the Reagan Rites, We Will Be Open Friday.''

''It's a statement about what we're doing for him, which is nothing,'' Tenney said. ''He was not a great man.''

...many great quotes snipped for copyright...

1. ha ha
I was at a Lowes getting some stuff to tackle my honey-do list this morning and met a friend who teases me about writing "liberal" letters to the editor in the check out lane. I told him I considered writing a letter about the real legacy of Reagan but was too busy. This lead to some good natured bantering (he really does dislike shrimp but he did like Reagan) about what he really did to the country.

There was a lady between us and after my friend had paid for his stuff and left she turned to me and said "I thought I was the only one who felt that way about all this."

Everybody I work with felt the same way.

2. I saw a friend today
I hadn't seen all week. She was raised republican but hates bush and she said,"I am so sick of Reagan! Why don't they just bury him already" and then she commented on she couldn't remember any president, even Kennedy getting this much coverage. I think they may have overdone it....

3. While I was at the hospital with Mr. B today I found that a lot of people
hated Reagan as much as Mr. B and I did...

The liberal banter helped make Mr.B feel a bit better!
