Saudi press fumes over Libyan 'plot' (to kill Crown Prince) | BBC

Saudi press fumes over Libyan 'plot'

The press in Saudi Arabia has reacted with a combination of shock and indignation to allegations that Libyan leader Col Gaddafi approved a plan to kill Crown Prince Abdullah.

The Libyans have denied the allegations, which are being investigated by the American authorities, and which US officials say put any possible rapprochement with Tripoli under a cloud.

Relations between Libya and Saudi Arabia have been difficult in recent years, especially after an angry exchange between Col Gaddafi and Crown Prince Abdullah at an Arab League summit in March 2003.

An editorial in the influential Saudi-owned pan-Arab daily Al-Sharq al-Awsat says the alleged plot has "stained Libya's image worldwide".

2. No. I think that now that he "cleaned his act" we will just help
the Saudis attack him. If I must take sides, I side with Qadaffi. At least he is an ex-terrorist. We just joined the terrorist club.

3. ya...
I'm not so sure why we'd be up in arms over this. The Saudis have undeniably been funding al-Qaida terrorists, why would we be against this?

Ok.... I'm only partially serious with this post.... Assasimation plots are bad, but the Saudi government is full of liars who support al-Qaida, and damnit if we needed a middle eastern war, Saudi Arabia should have been it.

5. This is so snarled. It's so messy.
Much worse than 'Days of our Lives', or 'As the US Turns'. I think that's the reason women watch these damn shows: you have to keep up with every twist and turn. Miss 1 day, and you can't keep up any longer.

It's the same thing with these damn plots, subplots and counterplots to kill someone who's funding someone else. What a mess.

The Saudis are NOT our friends. They are the local drug pusher, and we are the helpless, sweaty addict who loots Grandma's purse, looking for more change so we can get yet another fix of that BLACK GOLD in our veins. Ahhhhhhhh.........

6. First we disarm them, THEN we attack them
I'm sure the Italians will help, they've had a long history subjugating that place. (No snipe at the Italian people, this is a snipe at Berlusconi and the neo-fascists.)

It worked great in Iraq--um, sorta--to starve them into submission, sanction their military down to nothing, and then hit 'em hard; what's to keep us from doing it here? Mmmm, oil.

It DOES seem mighty suspicious that they haven't been crowing about the brilliant submission of Qadaffi, doesn't it? If they weren't contemplating some kind of overthrow, it seems they'd be patting themselves on the back and congratulating him no end for his "seeing the light".

Ahh, so many countries, so little time.

Venezuela: so close, so rich. Syria, so mean to our overlords the Israelis. Iran, so rich, so annoying. There's hardly even enough time for a good old fashioned vengeance war like Cuba.

So sad.
