US 'to hand over Saddam in two weeks'

The United States will hand over Saddam Hussein and all other detainees to the new Iraqi government over the next two weeks as sovereignty is restored to the Iraqi authorities, the interim prime minister said.

US officials have said they plan to continue to hold up to 5,000 prisoners deemed a threat to the coalition even after the restoration of Iraqi sovereignty at the end of this month.

In an interview with Al-Jazeera television, Prime Minister Iyad Allawi said Iraqi authorities expect to take possession of Saddam and the other detainees with the transfer of sovereignty.

"All the detainees will be transferred to the Iraqi authorities and the transporting operation will be done within the two coming weeks," Allawi said.

"Saddam and the others will be delivered to the Iraqis."

2. Why not send him to the HAGUE
Because if we did that we wouldn't be able to have an "ALL SUMMER LONG SADDAM WAR CRIMES TRIAL". I keep predicting this. You just wait.

6. What if there's a breakout?
It wouldn't be inconceivable for his followers to try to break him out of prison after he's in Iraqi control.

7. Oh, and Shrub, Cheney, Asscroft, and Rummy would be shocked, shocked!
They'd be shocked, shocked, I tell ya! They would mournfully tell the congress and puppy press that well, shucks, it's not realistic to pull out of Iraq now, and that they'll need another trillion or two to "defend freedom."

8. If there was a breakout
Bush should pack up his stuff and walk out of the white house THAT SECOND, because the election is over.

9. To say this will overshadow the Presidential election would be............
.....the understatement of the year. Saddam's trial or lack thereof will be getting big headlines for quite awhile to come. This should be interesting.

10. Oh! I doubt there will be much handing over of anybody!
And risk Saddam and others just disappearing in thin air. I can just see the grin on Saddam's face now.

Saddam's thoughts, "What incompetent fools. How could they think that my follow Iraqi's would choose them over me. Not after all the fuck-ups they've had in the last year...Thanks for the paid for vacation...Lot's of peace and quiet here in the US...I don't think I'll go back to all the noise and destruction that you people have created...I'll set up my next chop shop in Turkey, Jordon or Syria...Thanks...SUCKERS".

Com'on who do they think they are fooling.
