Cuomo retained to fight R rating for F9/11
http://1010wins.com/topstories/winstopstories_story_167144516.html

Former Gov. Mario Cuomo said Tuesday that he has been retained by the distributors of Michael Moore's documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11" to assist in their effort to get a PG-13 rating instead of an R.

"I'm going to do everything I possibly can to get this picture advanced," said Cuomo, a Democrat who has been a lawyer in private practice since being defeated for re-election by Republican George Pataki in 1994.
...
The MPAA ratings board gave "Fahrenheit 9/11" an R rating for "violent and disturbing images and for language." An R rating means that those younger than 17 can't see the movie unless accompanied by an adult.

Cuomo said that he has been retained by Lions Gate and IFC to assist in the appeals process and that after seeing the movie three times "I was convinced that it should be viewed and reflected upon by as many Americans as possible ... especially young people who, in a few years, might be part of our military forces."

1. Let's hope he wins
PG-13 would make this movie even bigger.

I do find it interesting that teenagers may not be able to see the results of actions done in their name.

6. Even worse...
that teenagers might be ordered to carry out actions that they currently are too young to see.

As my father would say, "Andiamo, lavoriamo, non dormiamo!" (Let's go, let's get to work work, let's not fall asleep!)

7. Actually, it doesn't matter
if he wins or loses. This just generates more buzz. It's all good. Can't wait to see it. :bounce:

10. That's exactly what this is for.
Every time there's a public feud with the MPAA over a rating, it generates attention for the film in question.

9. Their young, tender minds just can't take it in, unless ...
a parent is present -- or they've joined the military and are being trained to kill. (Can 16-year-olds still join up with parental consent?)

12. If there are true facists in the USA, it is the MPAA
Nameless individuals preserving corporate power and exercising de facto censorship through a system of arbitrary movie ratings. I'm glad to see the big guns going after them on this!
