Vatican says sorry for Inquisition
Vatican City - The Vatican on Tuesday published a lengthy report exposing abuses committed by the medieval Inquisition, as Pope John Paul II again apologised for the body's excesses in cracking down on heresy.

Set up in the 13th century, the Inquisition spread fear throughout Europe in the Middle Ages as it tried people accused of heresy - a major problem for the Church even before the emergence of Lutheranism and Calvinism.

The Inquisition took the form of a network of ecclesiastical tribunals equipped with judges and investigators. Abuses were widespread, while executions were carried out through burning at the stake.

4. Did they apologize for burning Giordano Bruno yet?
You know, for the horrid and heretical view that the universe is very, very large, and that Earth is just one tiny part of it.

Just asking . . .

5. How about Inquisition 2004
Hey Pope John Paul, do you think you might want to shut the fuck up about gays and abortion and condoms and communion before you start another one. Angry, angry Catholic here.

7. Is the Vatican...
going to apologize for the Spanish Inquisition, too? How many Jews were tortured and killed because they refused to convert to Catholicism?
