Iraq will demand return of Saddam's palace
But will they get it back?

Baghdad, Iraq-AP -- Reopening under new management.

That's what Iraq's president (Ghazi al-Yawer) has planned for Saddam Hussein's Republican Palace in Baghdad.

Right now the palace is being used as the headquarters of the U-S run coalition. And U-S officials have said they plan to use the palace as an annex for a new American Embassy in Baghdad.

But the country's new president told reporters today as he returned from a U-S trip that there's been no discussion of inviting the U-S to keep control of the palace.

3. Gawd, Iraq is going to explode July 1st
Of course the Iraqis should make the decision who gets to use the palaces, but there's no way in hell we'll leave. How soon until our Iraqi puppet government turns on us?

4. We have some gall
We take possession of one of Iraqi's historical landmarks and do not even think there is anything wrong with that action. It would be equivalent to having some foreign occupier take over the White House.

7. Actually, it was built by the British after World War I
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/02/26/60II/main542166.shtml

It's still a bad move symbolically to decide to annex it to the US Embassy. But it's not exactly an equivalent of the White House.

6. Can call this "The Revolt of the US Puppets"
or how Iraqi exiles try to con the Iraqi people.

This demand by our puppets sure sounds like a "bait and switch" con game to try to fool the Iraqi people that the interim Iraqi government is independent of US control.

8. Heh heh heh....
Maybe the Iraqis should give Chimpy a taste of his own foul medicine and form mobs in the street outside chanting, "GET OUT OF SADDAM'S HOUSE!"

Umm... maybe not. Could lead to lead poisoning.

15. Let em have it back
It's way too gaudy to be respectable as a part of the US embassy anyway. Plus the rooms really are not well fitted to be as offices. There are mostly just big ballrooms downstairs and small bedrooms upstairs. Definitely not embassy material.

,...about the human element which involves feeling. Of course, when it came to torture, they were very freakin' thoughtful about how to break the spirit of another human being.

What is the matter with these people? Do they know no only one path to another human being other than understanding and concern?

Damn.
