Deadly bomb blast in central Baghdad
Deadly bomb blast in central Baghdad

Thursday 17 June 2004, 8:59 Makka Time, 5:59 GMT

Baghdad has come under intense attack in last 24 hours

At least 15 people have been killed and about 70 others injured in a massive car bombing of the Civil Defence Corp recruitment centre in Baghdad.

Bodies, bloody and battered, lay tangled in the street outside
the centre on Thursday, as ambulances on the scene struggled to deal with the chaos.

A policeman told Aljazeera he thought the blast was caused by a car bomb and that at least 15 people have died.

"The explosion took place near al-Muthana airport at the entrance to a US military base. Members of the former Iraqi army were gathering to receive their salaries".

Crowded district

The toll is expected to rise as the Alawi al-Hilla neighbourhood was crowded at the time of the explosion. Numerous bus and taxi stations are based there.

10. . . .
John. I think this is the story that you were trying to find earlier. I should have waited. I apologize.

To anyone reading this thread . . . JohnLocke is the person who deserves credit for hearing about this tragedy first. Yet another in the continuing saga of life on earth in the 21st century under the BFEE-FUBAR regime. :(

4. No matter how many lies the Republicans tell
they will not be able to hide the carnage from the American voters. We don't have control in Iraq, we never will.

5. Sane people would say that Iraq is now hell on earth
caused by the good ol' USA. Predicted by the Vatican sometime in early 2003.

9. Who are "we", I believe it the the legitimate will of the Iraqi people
to be free of the bonds of western domination. Anyone who is willing to work for the oppression of the will of the people is a legit target. Getting a pay check from the U.S. gov and pinning a tin star on your made in Mexico uniform does not exempt anyone from being a traitor to the cause of national soverenty.
