Troops to Stay in Iraq as Long as Needed - Wolfowitz
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20040617/ts_nm/iraq_troops_dc&cid=564&ncid=1480

<snip>
The role of the coalition forces after July 1 is to support the Iraqi security forces as much as they need help. For some time to come they will need some substantial help, and to help them is the mission we would like to accomplish," Wolfowitz told a news conference in Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad.

The U.S.-led administration hands over sovereignty to an Iraqi government on June 30, but some 150,000 foreign soldiers will still be in Iraq, generating controversy over what level of control the Iraqi government should have over the troops.

"Our relationship with the new government of Iraq after July 1 will be one of a partnership. We approach the security issues from a common perspective and we will be consulting with this government on a daily basis," Wolfowitz said.

"A great effort is now going on to strengthen the Iraqi security forces. Iraqi security forces are not ready to assume their job, and until they are, you can count on us."

2. If he is so concerned about helping, let him go stay with the soldiers
and give them a helping hand in their day-to-day efforts to conduct Wolfowitz strategy.

4. And therein lies the principal difficulty....
The US simply will not state for the record that they have no intention of troops leaving Iraq, not now, not a year from now, not ever, if the administration has its druthers.

And, as long as troops remain in Iraq, they and the provisional government's officials will continue to be attacked. Occupation, in this administration's view, is a concept--they can delude themselves into believing that status of force agreements with a puppet government means they have been invited to stay, but the average Iraqi shall always think of those troops as occupiers lingering against Iraqi will.

6. Wolfowitz means, "Troops to stay in Iraq as long as there is OIL!!
In my opinion the expense will finally drive us out of Iraq. This can't go on for any length of time.
