Oil chief: my fears for planet (Climate Change)
I say we BOYCOTT EXXON/MOBIL and BUY SHELL!!!

This is a dramatic admission and a great opportunity for progressive action. I, for one, will pledge to buy shell instead of Exxon wherever and whenever possible.

Oil chief: my fears for planet
Shell boss's 'confession' shocks industry

David Adam, science correspondent
Thursday June 17, 2004

The Guardian

The head of one of the world's biggest oil companies has admitted that the threat of climate change makes him "really very worried for the planet". In an interview in today's Guardian Life section, Ron Oxburgh, chairman of Shell, says we urgently need to capture emissions of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide, which scientists think contribute to global warming, and store them underground - a technique called carbon sequestration.

"Sequestration is difficult, but if we don't have sequestration then I see very little hope for the world," said Lord Oxburgh. "No one can be comfortable at the prospect of continuing to pump out the amounts of carbon dioxide that we are pumping out at present ... with consequences that we really can't predict but are probably not good."

His comments will enrage many in the oil industry, which is targeted by climate change campaigners because the use of its products spews out huge quantities of carbon dioxide, most visibly from vehicle exhausts. His words follow those of the government's chief science adviser, David King, who said in January that climate change posed a bigger threat to the world than terrorism.

....

Mr Oakley said a gulf was opening between more progressive oil companies such as Shell, which invests in alternative energy sources including wind and solar power, and ExxonMobil, the biggest and most influential producer, particularly in the US.

4. The problem with dupe police is they block discussion of
issues that may have sunk like a rock.

I suppose I could find it and post my comments, but I think a boycott exxon buy shell plan deserves a chance.

dupe police won't let that happen

not here in LBN

oh well

If we make this a rallying cry then our voices may get heard.

Shell may not be pure as the driven snow, but obviously in this world we need to grab what comes on the spectrum of good and evil environmentally and support the good (kinda like Bush and kerry - we may not like Kerry but he sure as hell is a million times better than Bush))

6. This doesn't surprise me about Shell.
There is a investor's group which rates companies on their approach to global warming. Shell and BP rated high in the report. The U.S. oil companies did not.
