Germany gets licence to shoot -civilian aircraft
Berlin - The German parliament adopted on Friday a new law making it possible for the military to shoot down a civilian aircraft if it believes the plane is being used in a terrorist attack.

The law would allow the defence minister, in the likelihood of a "particularly grave accident", to authorise the military to fire on a hijacked jet, like those used in the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States.

The use of weapons against the plane would only be permissible "if in the circumstances it could be assumed that the aircraft would be used to take human lives" and if all other options had been exhausted.
