SEATTLE - As part of new security rules for ferries, some vehicles will be screened by explosive-sniffing dogs and random searches before they board Washington state ferries.

The measures go into effect on July 1.

State ferries CEO Mike Thorne and Patrol Chief Lowell Porter also asked ferry riders to report any suspicious behavior.

1. wow... that really sucks
I used to ride the ferries from Seattle to Petersburg... it took about three days, and it was a really cool scene. I guess I'm glad I was able to experience that, because it's gone now. :-(
