Continuing her crusade against federal energy regulators and Enron Corp., Sen. Maria Cantwell Monday called for the release of more e-mails written by Enron employees.
Cantwell, a Washington state Democrat, said the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has "hidden" important Enron e-mails from the public by placing them under protective seal and has opposed the release of additional e-mails that may contain valuable evidence.

"Just as the now-infamous Enron audiotapes exposed Enron's corrupt corporate culture and trading practices, these e-mails may help prove how Enron manipulated energy markets," she wrote in letters to FERC Chairman Patrick Wood III and the Justice Department.

Under rules established by the Justice Department, officials at the Snohomish County, Wash., Public Utility District, and other groups fighting Enron are allowed to see the sensitive e-mails, but cannot copy them or make then available to the public, Lee said.
