Bush Pushes Marriage Plan, Raises Cash
Bush Pushes Marriage Plan, Raises Cash

By PETE YOST, Associated Press Writer

CINCINNATI - President Bush (news - web sites) raised money for the Republican Party and promoted his agenda of compassionate conservatism Monday as he and his Democratic rival focus on a key state in their battle for the White House.

On his 18th presidential trip to Ohio, Bush promoted his $1.5 billion proposal to offer premarital counseling to parents on welfare.

"I think one of the smartest things we can do is to encourage families" by spending money on grants to states, faith-based organizations and community-based groups that "teach people what it means to be in a successful marriage," Bush told supporters at an alcohol and drug addiction services center.

"It's stuck" and "there's too much politics in Washington on this," said Bush. "Congress needs to get the welfare bill to my desk. It's a bill that will encourage work. It will encourage compassionate programs."

9. The little bastard has the nerve to say this in a drug and alcohol
treatment center! He has cut so many recovery programs and replaced them with jails. His "compassion" is only for the "have more's".

8. That $1.5BB is a political pay-off to the Religious Right.
Counseling of Welfare Couples appears to be a growth industry for the Fundies. Look to see Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell incorporate businesses focused on grabbing the $ from this government give-away.

He is so stupid he can only sign somethiung if Cheney tells him to.

I am convinced--he is stupid. The most stupid president ever

Makes him fell real powerful and sound presidential to himself, to say congress should send something"to my desk"

6. The counseling will probably be done by Faith Based Evangelical Churches
the faith based program is a give away to the Churches for votes..
the churches don't have to spend the money on counseling.. they can build a building to council or whatever in.

so far no other church other than the evangelicals have got any money.
