48 Nobel Prize winners back Kerry
Four dozen Nobel Prize-winning scientists have urged Americans to support the presidential candidacy of Democratic Senator John Kerry, accusing President George W. Bush of "compromising our future".

"We support John Kerry for President and urge you to join us," the 48 chemists, physicists and doctors wrote in a signed letter published on Kerry's campaign website.

The scientists say the science policies of Bush's Republican administration are "compromising our future," including by reducing funding for scientific research.

1. the letter is up on Kerry's site
http://www.johnkerry.com/pressroom/releases/pr_2004_0621.html

Presidential elections present us with choices about our nation's future. We support John Kerry for President and urge you to join us.

The prosperity, health, environment, and security of Americans depend on Presidential leadership to sustain our vibrant science and technology; to encourage education at home and attract talented scientists and engineers from abroad; and to nurture a business environment that transforms new knowledge into new opportunities for creating quality jobs and reaching shared goals. President Bush and his administration are compromising our future on each of these counts. By reducing funding for scientific research, they are undermining the foundation of America's future. By setting unwarranted restrictions on stem cell research, they are impeding medical advances. By employing inappropriate immigration practices, they are turning critical scientific talent away from our shores. And by ignoring scientific consensus on critical issues such as global warming, they are threatening the earth's future. Unlike previous administrations, Republican and Democratic alike, the Bush administration has ignored unbiased scientific advice in the policy-making that is so important to our collective welfare.

John Kerry will change all this. He will support strong investments in science and technology as he restores fiscal responsibility. He will stimulate the development and deployment of technologies to meet our economic, energy, environmental, health, and security needs. He will recreate an America that provides opportunity to all at home or abroad who can help us make progress together.

John Kerry will restore science to its appropriate place in government and bring it back into the White House. He is the clear choice for America's next President.

2. i'll be curious to see how the righties spin this one
though they don't particularly care for the nobel, since jimmy carter got one a couple of years ago. but then, they'd love w. to win a nobel, so they apparently do care for it.

isn't that called a flip-flop?

15. I checked on FreeRepublic
the consensus seems to be that these folks just want to gobble up more tax money, that academics are liberals anyway, and that these scientists are anti-Christian.

It can't be real science if god isn't included...

Could we expect anything else from people who push to teach creationism in the classroom?

5. Bravo...Senator Kerry!
"As president, Kerry will also overturn the ban on federal funding of research on new stem cell lines, and he will allow doctors and scientists to explore their full potential with the appropriate ethical oversight."

“If we pursue the limitless potential of our science – and trust that we can use it wisely – we will save millions of lives and earn the gratitude of future generations,” Kerry said. “We have the potential to do so much good while at the same time meeting some very practical challenges—lowering health care costs and creating new jobs. It’s about investing in the future of our country. I won’t let ideology and fear stand in our way.”

Yes, yes, yes,...BRAVO!

Finally, a breath of fresh air reflecting compassion and intelligence for the not so fortunate people who's needs are stifled by an administration crusading for religion at the expense of the people.

7. Smart people are Democrats.
College profs are all liberal. I think it says something that the people who study the most are leftist.

9. there is a difference between Liberal and Leftist.. Liberals believe in
using the Democratic Process to initiate change.. leftist is associated with socialism...

both terms have been effectively demonetized and the actual meaning has been changed by the Reich Wingers.. through typically Communist methods of disinformation and a very well planed and effective propaganda machine...
