Alert: DEMS TRYING TO KICK NADER OUT OF ARIZONA!!!!!
Edited on Wed Jun-23-04 03:43 PM by NoBushLite
With deadline looming, Nader/Arizona bid may be killed by Democrat lawyers!!!!!

Today's Hotline (too expensive for real people to subscribe; I'll paste the full text below) has huge news re Nader and Kerry:

ARIZONA (10 EVs): Not A Good Day For Nader

A group of AZ Dems, with support from the AZ Dem Party, "says it will mount a legal challenge today" to Ralph Nader's WH '04 bid. The Dems "will try to have Nader disqualified" from AZ's 11/04 ballot. The deadline "to file challenges of candidates' petitions is 5 p.m. today."

Dem attys "have reviewed petitions submitted in support of Nader's bid, and found a 'pretty good' case against Nader's bid," AZ Dem chair Jim Pederson said 6/22. Pederson "said issues for the challenge will include whether people who signed the petitions were registered to vote, as well as whether circulators who gathered the 21,185 names were legally entitled to collect signatures" in AZ.

Dems "have a substantial burden and will have to show a judge that one out of every three names collected is ineligible: Nader needs to have only 14,694 signatures declared valid to be on the ballot here."

The Dems' move "drew derision" from Nader. Said Nader: "It's the beginning of a campaign by Democrats who don't believe in robust, competitive campaigns. ... They want to block our free speech, free assembly, free petitions rights" (Fischer, Capitol Media Services, 6/23).

An AZ Dem source tells us that they believe they've already found problems with more than half of the 21K+ signatures Nader turned in, which if true, would leave Nader short of the necessary signatures to get on the ballot (Hotline reporting, 6/23).

DNC spokesperson Jano Cabrera "stressed that the state party had not requested DNC resources and that any decision to challenge Nader's ballot access rests with state officials." But he said the nat'l party "stands behind the effort in principle." Cabrera: "We support our state party's aim to validate the petition signatures in accordance with the state election law" (Hananel, AP, 6/22).

Also of note: Another AZ Dem source notes the "spotlight" will be on AZ Sec/State and "Bush/Cheney surrogate" Jan Brewer "to see if she follows the applicable statutes or aids the GOP exploitation of Ralph Nader to split the Dem vote" (e-mail, 6/23).

Nader is not exactly the best thing for the Democrat bigwigs, but he is NOT a bad thing for the party, because he keeps the DLC in check. McAuliffe is too scared to try to actually win the hearts of liberals anymore. Instead, he's trying to rob them of their options. It's a lot easier to get the Democratic Wing of the Democratic Party to vote for Kerry when the only liberal in the race -- Nader -- has been taken off the ballot.

I'm sick of this shit. Does "the party" even care anymore? Or is it just selling out completely?

It's hard to even justify this lunacy with a response, but Nader is not trying to be a part of the Democratic Party in anyway, nor is he trying to contribute to anything aside from his own ego.

11. He DOES affect the part
He's keeping the DLC in check by running as an independent. WIthout him, the post-primaries DNC would have free reign to run a straight DLC platform/candidate. Nader keeps them honest to their base.

21. Wake up, huh?
Nader doesn't keep anyone in check. If Nader cared about Democratic values, he'd stay out of this election. Everyone who considers themselves anything close to being a Democrat knows ANYONE is better than Bush, DLC or not. Maybe it was an appropriate statement to make in 2000, but it's NOT in 2004. Our country is on the brink of destruction. It's not about party this time around - it's about our future. PERIOD.

22. in what world are you living in?
Do you honestly think that somehow Nader has any effect whatsoever on the platform of the Democratic Party? if anything he does the opposite of what you want here. By drawing liberals AWAY from the party this idiot actually causes the Democratic party to move more towards the center. Why the hell would the Democratic party move leftwards after Nader drew as many votes as he did last time and Gore still freakin won by 1/2 a million votes? Get a clue. Nader is bad for liberals and bad for the Democratic Party and we want his moronic ass out of this election before he does just what he is trying to do which is destroy the Democratic Party in an effort to create a new party to his own liking. Thanks but no thanks, I'm happy with the party I've got now.

Hmmm...NoBushLite, do you perhaps live under a bridge? Asking passersby to answer riddles?

Not to want Ralphie Boy to work in collusion with Repub operatives to allow him once again to be the spoiler who allowed Dub to serve a four-year term he shouldn't have!

Anybody playing it Ralphie's way is just doing so for his own ego's sake, to say he brought down the Democratic Party, the nation's very existence be damned. I wish one of the Congressional Black Caucus members had pounded him under the table. THAT'S all Ralphie Boy deserves from us!:grr:

NoBushLite ? gee where have i heard this before? go back to naderland, this is Democratic Underground not Naderland.

"only trying to rob them of their options?" since when is it the job of the head of the Democratic party to not be against anything that draws votes away from Democrat candidates? While I don't see any reason for *anyone* to not run for President if they feel like it, I do think that following election laws is probably a good idea and if I felt that my candidate was going to lose support because some egotistical jerk-off decided to violate those laws then I would sure as hell expect my party to put up a fight over those illegal actions.

15. Good for them, Nader is an egotistical bastard and his arguement
that there is no difference between the repubs and dems may have fooled plenty in 2000, me included, but this time that shit doesn't wash.

If Nader actually cared about the people of this country he would spend his TV time bashing *. Does he do that? Fuck no, he spouts that lie over and over again. Fuck the bastard I hope that he burns in hell with the rest of the repugs.

Nader has no support this time around and I hope he doesn't make it on any ballots.

12. You're missing the point here
The GOP paid for canvassers to go out and get signatures, and we know they paid only GOPers to do it. GOPers cheat. The Democratic challenge is a good thing, and will eliminated all the falsified names on those petitions.

There may or may not be enough of the GOP party faithful who want to see Nader on the ballot. This is just a counter to the GOP dirty tricks squad.

42. Yes, the Democratic Party DOES care. That's why we're trying to...
...boot Nader into the Land Time Forgot.

Nader is nothing but a NeoCon stealth operative. Consider the following from the 2000 campaign:

*When asked who he would vote for, Gore or Bush, Nader responded "Bush".

*When asked why he was running for president in 2000, Nader responded that he wanted to make sure Gore did not win.

*GOP backers paid for Nader ads slamming Gore in the Northwestern states.

I rest my case.
