Connection between child trafficking in Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia

Evidence is mounting that there is a growing industry in Afghanistan that involves child kidnapping and trafficking. In particular a link has been established between the Afghan industry and Saudi Arabia.

Last year UNICEF was made aware of 120 cases of children being trafficked. Already this year the number stands at around 260 in and around the provinces surrounding Kabul alone. The number nationwide is unknown.

Besides implicating Rock guitarist Peter Townsend of the Who, the report claimed that senior members of Tony Blair's government were being investigated for pedophilia and the "enjoyment" of child-sex pornography. With the investigation reaching to senior members of his Government, Blair declared a news blackout on the story.

Moreover, the British report was not the first such case reported. In fact, it followed on the heels of a report from Portugal. On November 27, 2002, the press reported a scandal of pedophile ring run from a state orphanage. The Guardian reported that the scandal threatened to engulf diplomats, media personalities and senior politicians. Photographs of senior government officials with young boys from Lisbon's Casa Pia orphanage were among the evidence. On January 14, 2002, Insight Magazine reported the charges leveled by Ben Johnson against his employer Dyncorp, a major defense contractor. Johnson charged that officials and employees of Dyncorp were engaging in perverse, illegal and inhumane behavior and were purchasing illegal weapons, women, forged passports and participating in other immoral acts. Johnson had witnessed his supervisors and fellow employees buying 12- to 15-year-olds as sex slaves

Do I believe it is morally wrong. Of course I do. Thailand has a different set of culture values that would shock most westerners when it comes to sex. Am I going to say my cultural values are better than Thailand's. No because that would be ethnocentrism. The sex business is part of Thai culture and they have beliefs on what is acceptable and what is not. Look at their war on drugs. I find this appalling and I don't believe that 1000 drug dealers shot each other themselves and cops only 39 drug dealers. Thais believe this is a great way to get rid of drugs (shoot em on the spot) I'm in Malaysia and it is ok for a Malay man to have 4 wives. Is this morally wrong? By Malay and Islamic standards, this is acceptable. For me, this is wrong.

It is common for men to have a wife and a mistress and business deals are usually finalized with drinks and girls. Arranged marriages occur all the time. Do I think it is wrong? Yes, but in Thailand this is considered the norm and only having one wife and no mistress is considered wrong.

Is this exploitation? Yes, but I'm not going to be ignorant about it and say that all girls are exploited considering the conversations I've had. It's exploitation on both sides. The nickname for westerners among girls in Bangkok is "walking ATM" and western men see all women as potential short time girls.

Most women want to save money and buy a shop. Since banks won't led money to uneducated women and jobs are scarce for these women, where are they going to get work? 95% of all prostitution in Thailand is done among Thais and 5% by tourists. The highest age for education by a girl from Isaan (where most bar girls come from) is 12 . Thai culture does not place great emphasis on education or training for girls. What options do they have? You can place the blame on everyone who participates and the system (cops, government officials, tourists, Thai culture, education system, materialism, etc.)

Thailand has stiff laws for having sex with a minor (16 and under) and spending 15 years in a Thai prison is good punishment. Having volunteered to teach English for over 8 months so girls can improve their chances at getting a better job allowed me to get a decent insight on the 'business' more than I could ever learn reading newspapers and forums. And yes, it is heartbreaking to see them use their language skills to improve their chances of being picked by a guy at a bar.

By the way, I'm not surprised Neil slept with a girl. I've seen embassy officials come in and take girls away for 'conversation'. Also, there is nothing more disgusting then seeing a fat old tourist with an 18 or 20 year old girl.

to comment on the right/wrong stuff though. One thing, the '95% of all prostitution' I'd like to see some investigative reporting on that figure. I'm not saying you're wrong, darn close, 80%-95%. But I like you saying that because many people automatically think the local people don't participate in sex.

I did the Thai bar scene on the coat-tails of a friend I met while traveling. He's American and had a Thai girlfriend. But previously he was a Thai Bar Fly and knew all the places and all the girls. We'd go to his favorite bar of the night about 11PM. We drank, talked, shot pool, darts... the night away. Men would come in, many regulars, because as soon as they walked in the door the Head Lady would run over to them and in a 1 word conversation the Head Lady would scream out a girl's name and the girls would come running over like a servant to a king. (or to Neil Bush).

My friend's SOP plan was to wait it out until closing then go out to the local joints with the girls who didn't get business that night. As I could see my friend had been doing this a long time. This is how he became 'friends' with the girls. But these were like mini-dates because we were expected to pay for the drinks and taxi and food later. We could also take the girls home at some kind of very discount rate. For anyone who thinks these girls are doing this for business and don't drink, you're wrong! They can drink and it seemed like we were having fun together. But I'd found out that we were only semi-together in the other joints. The girls, now off work, we're still looking for a customer or a Foreigner. This happened a couple of times when the girl I was with disappeared and I was told she found some business.

I really liked one girl. We had gone out and talked many nights. She was about 8 years younger than me. Really had a good time. I never even kissed her. One night in the middle of Tim Buk Too, about 4AM, she asked me what I wanted from her. I told her nothing, I want to be friends and maybe something more can happen. She just got up and left but I didn't know she had actually left. She dumped me. It's another whole story how I got back to the guest house. Next day, I told my friend. He said, 'you didn't tell her you want to be friends, did you? That just phucks up their mind.' He and quite a few other Foreigner ran into the same situation and the same results. Honestly I don't know the details of their thinking.

I didn't have girls stay at my guest house room. you have to pay some extra baht per night when you have a girl sleep over. Whether or not you want to believe it I never had sex with any of these girls. They'd be so drunk in the Tuk Tuk dropping me off I was afraid what might happen to them alone. And they liked the idea of coming over anyway. When they'd wake up in the morning, still in their clothing, they really felt strange. 'You didn't do anything to me last night?'. Here's another, I don't care if no one believes me. It's a time in Earth that I'll never forgot. Their true feelings coming out, the look on their faces... from not being taken advantage of.
But I didn't want to marry any of these girls. I wanted the one who dumped me. I never understand because I would have married her and so she could leave Thailand.
Another point, I don't think I saw a bar girl who didn't have multiple suicide cuts on their wrists.
I have another very very important Thai friend who feels children don't know how to phuck so he prefers adults. He also has several mistresses with children. I've gone to their homes. They seem happy with the fact of no husband and being a mistress. But I think it's the money which makes them like the situation. What's the alternative? Work as slave sniffing glue in a Nike factory for about US$20 per month or getting US$20-40 per night?

These people Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Cambodia, Shanghi... have sex to support their lives. It's not a difficult job with flexible hours. Would most stop if they could? I honestly don't know.

I love all people and I hate Governments and Corporations. They all know this stuff is going on. Especially the Philippines. Marcos, Aquino, Ramos, and Arroyo. The holy Catholics.

It's hard to describe the bar scene in Bangkok to people who have never experienced it. Hope you enjoyed your time in Thailand and the bar scene is one that a person can easily fall into. There are a bunch of sites about prostitution in Thailand as I'm doing my dissertation on prostitution in SE Asia.

The sniffing glue part is very accurate as I know a couple of girls who left working in factories to work in the bars. I remember getting on a motorbike taxi and hoping to God that my driver wasn't sniffing glue or paint 5 minutes before.

You do learn a lot from the mamasan as I was forturnate to get to know a couple of them. When you become a regular of a bar, you get to know the situation a lot clearer than a person who comes in for a week - most head for Pattaya or Koh Samui. Your friend probably knows a lot about the scene. You learn lessons quick in Bangkok. If you don't, you could easily end up dead.

I think it's a big dirty thing The Bush Crime Family is doing with Arab/Muslim people. It's easy to hate someone if you've never met one. I never met any bad people anywhere. The Muslim people are as friendly or more friendly as any people I've ever met. No one in my family has ever met a Muslim. I've met a lot who were attending Stanford and working in the Bay Area.
