U.S. Immunity in Iraq Will Go Beyond June 30
U.S. Immunity in Iraq Will Go Beyond June 30

By Robin Wright
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, June 24, 2004; Page A01

The Bush administration has decided to take the unusual step of bestowing on its own troops and personnel immunity from prosecution by Iraqi courts for killing Iraqis or destroying local property after the occupation ends and political power is transferred to an interim Iraqi government, U.S. officials said.

The administration plans to accomplish that step -- which would bypass the most contentious remaining issue before the transfer of power -- by extending an order that has been in place during the year-long occupation of Iraq. Order 17 gives all foreign personnel in the U.S.-led Coalition Provisional Authority immunity from "local criminal, civil and administrative jurisdiction and from any form of arrest or detention other than by persons acting on behalf of their parent states."

1. Wow.
So under The Boy King's idea of "Iraq for the Iraqis" the Iraq security forces and courts have no power when it comes to the murder of it's citizens and destruction of it's property.

Nice sovereignty.

And once again - wy do they hate us?

3. Apparently Bushco has the same immunity in the U.S.
Otherwise, they'd be behind bars for their crimes.

4. More proof
More proof that they will most certainly be a sovereign country on June 30th, 2004.

Yet the U.S. still has free reign....I think this fits more into the "Colony" category.

6. Another nail in the coffin of the puppets.
They're already doomed, but this is ridiculous--"agreeing" with the exemption of foreign occupiers from local law.

7. And people are surprised because...??
Edited on Thu Jun-24-04 10:34 AM by Gman
These people unilaterally make their own law, including international law, as they see fit, ignore laws they don't like, reinterpret laws they can't change then lie and spin all of it. That's what fascist regimes do to keep power. The government of the US is an illegitimate fascist regime. There was a right wing boodless coup in November-December 2000. Remember? This is the kind of government that was installed. We should do everything we can for the counter-revolution. Hopefully we can get it done in November. If not, then we need to decide the next step.
