Another prominent Iraqi murdered in Mosul

The dean of Mosul University's college of law and her husband were murdered at their home this week. An anonymous relative told Reuters that Layla Abdullah Saad had received death threats. "Some people advised her to hire guards to protect that house, but she wouldn't listen," the relative said. Saad, shot and stabbed in her doorway, became Mosul's latest prominent resident believed to have been deliberately targeted in what appears to be an assault against Iraqi professionals throughout the country

This is the fifth such incident in Mosul since December; a judge, a prominent prosecutor and two other Mosul University deans have also been killed, while the director of the university's Translation Department resigned after receiving a bullet in an envelope with a note reading: "It's better to leave your job or you will face what you don't want," reported the New YorkTimes. The Times reported in February that both US and Iraqi officials see the murders as a deliberate assault against progress in Iraq.
