Ford Will Lay Off 1,200 Workers Next Year In Closing Ohio Plant
"Ford Motor Co. said Thursday that it will close its assembly plant in Lorain, Ohio, late next year, resulting in the loss of 1,200 jobs.

Production of the plant's Econoline van will shift to the Ohio Assembly Plant in nearby Avon Lake by January 2006, spokeswoman Anne Marie Gattari said.

Production of the Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner at the Avon Lake plant will be transferred to Claycomo, Mo., near Kansas City, in August 2005.

Last year, Ford said it would close the Lorain plant within four years, but it gave no timeline. The company gave details to workers Wednesday."

4. wow, the economy is already decimated out there
that's where all the maternal relatives live, in Lorain. It's sad to go back and see the state of their economy, relegated to low-paying service jobs. thank the stars my uncle works in Avon already. He's a year away from retirement, better get out quick!
