Democrats Offer Republicans a $145 Billion Resolution to Asbestos Lawsuits
WASHINGTON (AP) -Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle has suggested the Senate create an $145 billion trust fund for people suffering from asbestos-related diseases in hopes of breaking a yearlong legislative logjam.
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., would not confirm the offer from Daschle, D-S.D. It would cost less than the GOP-controlled Judiciary Committee approved but more than a plan Frist himself pushed earlier this year.

"I'm not going to comment," Frist said Friday. "But we've been talking back and forth."

A Senate aide, speaking on conditions of anonymity, confirmed the offer was made Thursday.
