(Jun. 25) -- The highly anticipated film, Fahrenheit 9/11, came with more than just controversy at one Las Vegas movie theatre. Moviegoer, Richard Streeter, was one of the many who made his way to a theatre to see what the hype was about. After viewing the film, he was greeted outside the theatre by members of the Las Vegas MoveOn.org.

The group was handing out leaflets on the importance of the film. Streeter voiced his view on the movie, "I made the comment, apples and oranges -- Kerry, Bush -- one's no better than the other. You really ain't got much of a choice. This guy comes up to me and says, 'Oh yeah?' " Streeter was then spat on by the same man.

He attempted to call police to report the incident when he was told not to, "A guy standing next to him said why don't you drop it. I said, 'No, I'm calling the police. I'm exercising my right as a citizen, I've been assaulted.' "

But the horror kept on growing for Streeter as he walked to his car on the phone with police, "This guy turns, and totally by surprise takes his hand and bam! It was a big guy. Shoved me onto the ground, I hit my head." A police report has been filed.

The piece states that this took place "outside the theater". So ...

Issue #1:

If this was in their parking lot, were there any surveillance tapes? Were there any eyewitnesses? And, if not, how do we know that this actually occurred at all?


Issue #2:

If there were NO surveillance tapes and/or eyewitnesses:

Does this person have any history of making false claims? In particular, is he associated with any group that might have a political *interest* in filing false claims? And, if so, would such a group be more likely to stage a "dirty trick" event where there were *many* witnesses and surveillance cameras, or where there were *minimal* witnesses and surveillance cameras? Does this reflect at all on the veracity of the claim in question?

Lastly:

Since this person is apparantly a poster at FR, someone should look up some of his posts and forward them to the station in question, just so that they can have an accurate reflection of the mindset he took into this event, his association with a RW hate-site, and, thereby, his possible motives for concocting a story to feed to the media in order to smear people involved with this film.

A Las Vegas man said he was assaulted by two men Friday following a verbal exchange about Michael Moore's controversial documentary, "Fahrenheit 9/11."

Richard Streeter, 62, said he had just seen the movie at Regal Cinemas' Village Square 18, and stopped to look at a group distributing fliers in support of the film.

Streeter, who is a fan of Moore, said a man took offense to his comment....

Streeter said the man who spit {sic; it's supposed to be "spat"} in his face got into a white Lincoln Continental and drove away. Streeter, who was on the phone with a 911 operator, told the operator he would not leave until police arrived at the strip mall at Sahara Avenue and Fort Apache Road.

Streeter said the man who had trailed him into the parking lot then pushed him, causing him to fall to the pavement, hit his head and break his fall with his right hand.

"We went to see a movie about how ridiculous violence is," Streeter said. "I'd like to think Michael Moore can make a difference. But five minutes after I get out of the movie, I get assaulted by two guys."

Notice he had no license plate to give the cops. This smells distinctly of a set-up of some kind. I can't imagine anyone from moveon.org doing anything of this sort, and I certainly can't imagine any Repug saying "apples and oranges" (it should have been apples and apples, but guess he was too dumb to realize an analogy is a same-to-same reference, oh well) when discussing Bush and Kerry. A freeper CERTAINLY would NOT say something like that, unless it was STAGED. I can see an independent, Green, Libertarian, saying that, but definitely not a repug. They would never associate their "hero" with Kerry.
