Television news accused of Iraq bias
http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/05D7943D-1055-4851-8447-5F94CC8AD26B.htm

<snip>
Like other independent journalists and media professionals, Mahajan says many of the big western broadcasters and newspapers are failing to tell the world what is really happening in Iraq.

They allege that major media players, such as CNN and the BBC, rely too heavily on official occupation authority sources at the expense of Iraqi opinion.

<snip>
David Miller, from the UK's Glasgow Media Group, told Aljazeera.net that every reputable media study proves the majority of western TV coverage on Iraq is biased.

"Falluja was a good example of the misrepresentation of what is going on in Iraq," he said. "The kind of eyewitness reports of the killing that was happening there that I heard on independent media just didn't make it into western coverage.

1. Nothing but the truth in this article. The Western media is NOT....
...reporting what is really going on in Iraq.

2. Propaganda Alert: Only 3 days left until the Handover Hoax
US TV viewers will be subjected to an overdose of "full sovereignty" crap news.

For the true story, read Naomi Klein's latest essay:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,2763,1247867,00.html

The multibillion robbery the US calls reconstruction

The shameless corporate feeding frenzy in Iraq is fuelling the resistance

Naomi Klein
Saturday June 26, 2004
The Guardian

---snip---

In the run-up to the June 30 underhand (sorry, I can't bring myself to call it a "handover"), US occupation powers have been unabashed in their efforts to steal money that is supposed to aid a war-ravaged people. The state department has taken $184m earmarked for drinking water projects and moved it to the budget for the lavish new US embassy in Saddam Hussein's former palace. Short of $1bn for the embassy, Richard Armitage, the deputy secretary of state, said he might have to "rob from Peter in my fiefdom to pay Paul". In fact, he is robbing Iraq's people, who, according to a recent study by the consumer group Public Citizen, are facing "massive outbreaks of cholera, diarrhoea, nausea and kidney stones" from drinking contaminated water.

8. Every time I see this picture I die a little. It is
an horrendous example of what is ocurring in Iraq and GW is the cause of it all. This picture represents what is wrong with the USA under GW. I try to avert my glance but fail to do it. The image is burnt into my brain.

5. It is a sad day for the likes of CNN and BBC...

7. "Al Jazeera has more credibility in the world" because at this
point in time it IS more credible. I have spent the last few days at my 84 year old mother's house, replacing her bathroom floor. She is too poor to have the work hired out, so I did it for her. All the time I was there, she was listening to Fox News - non-stop. I tried to talk to her about how stupid it was for a person of her age and socio-economic status to be a Bush supporter. But she is too far gone in the propaganda - she has no clue and wants none. I have writen her off for anything other than required assistence. It's sad, but I cannot let family ties over-ride the destruction of my country. Al Jazeera? I prefer it to any US media, period.
