Sun-Times circulation chief, predecessor leave posts
http://www.suntimes.com/output/business/cst-fin-holl29.html

The current and former chiefs of circulation for the Chicago Sun-Times left their jobs Monday -- just two weeks after the paper's parent company revealed its sales figures had been inflated for "several years."

Mark Hornung, president and publisher of the Daily Southtown newspaper, was placed on administrative leave by Hollinger International, owner of the Southtown and the Sun-Times. Stephen Hastings resigned as the Sun-Times' vice president for circulation, according to the paper's publisher, John Cruickshank.

Cruickshank became publisher of the Sun-Times and the head of Hollinger's "Chicago group" of newspapers in November of last year, replacing David Radler. Hollinger International ousted Radler and controlling shareholder Conrad Black from their management posts after reporting the men took about $32 million in unauthorized payments. The company is now fighting them on several legal fronts.

Hornung's departure indicates investigators believe the sales distortions began at least three years ago. Hornung ran the Sun-Times' circulation department from 1995 through 2001. He then left to run the Southtown and was succeeded by Hastings.

Prior to running circulation, Hornung served as the Sun-Times' editorial page editor. In March 1995, he stepped down when he was accused of plagiarism. Hornung admitted he had included in his column parts of an editorial from the Washington Post.

1. Even better...
Former Illinois governor Jim Thompson chaired the Audit Committee of Hollinger. He rubber-stamped ALL the schemes to plunder the company...
I can see a federal investigation in the future...
