"Fahrenheit" scene puts heat on Porter Goss (spoiler alert)
http://www.news-press.com/news/local_state/040630fahrebheit_sider.html

<snip>

“We’re getting hundreds of calls,” said spokeswoman Julie Almacy.

The brief segment is intended to make Goss, 65, chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, look uninformed at best and misleading at worst. The segment has been greeted by applause and laughter at some showings in Southwest Florida.

Almacy said Goss didn’t mean to imply an 800 number really exists. She said he was referring to the intelligence committee as if it were a “help line” Americans could call with concerns they have about the Patriot Act or other aspects of U.S. intelligence gathering.

“It is a reference to the intelligence committee,” Almacy said. “Mr. Moore decided to take it literally and it wasn’t meant that way.”

1. The excuse is purely idiotic
In the film, it is clear that Goss is trying to answer a question by replying with a Gotcha--but it turns out that he was the one who got got.

16. Hey. Mine is Hal Rogers.
You know, the one whose name is now on the "Hal Rogers Parkway" in Southeastern Kentucky. It used to be the "Daniel Boone Parkway," but apprently Mr. Boone didn't do enough for the area.

2. what a lame excuse
"People with concerns can call our 1-800 toll free number" sounds pretty specific to me. What liars these people are. What a liar he is. I hope he gets called on this when he is nominated to take Tenet's place.

I saw the movie; he sounded like one of those bumper stickers that says "don't like how I'm driving? call 1-800-eat-shit!"

It got a big laugh here in Vegas, too.

Funny me for thinking that when someone says he has an 800 number, that he literally has an 800 number. What was I thinking??? :eyes:

I don't mind making several calls to ask a few questions about my new rights under the Patriot Act. After all I should know what they are and second Goss whether he knows it or not still works for the people of the United States.:kick:

Jeeeeeezus. The sumbitch can't admit he lied on camera, so he pretends he was being abstract.

So just how do we utilize this figurative help-line? By telepathy?
