Stern lambastes Bush, FCC
'I criticize Bush and then I'm fired'

From George Lerner
CNN
Wednesday, June 30, 2004 Posted: 12:12 PM EDT (1612 GMT)

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Radio host Howard Stern took aim at the Bush administration, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and media giant Clear Channel as he announced Wednesday that his program will soon be broadcast on nine new stations across the country.

(snip)

Stern accused Clear Channel of taking him off the air not for reasons of obscenity but because he had spoken out against President Bush.

"Clear Channel is very tied to the Bush administration" Stern said. "Clear Channel for years has been defending me...I criticize Bush and then I'm fired...They acted out of politics."

(snip)

He said he was encouraging his listeners, whom he described as swing voters, to cast their ballots for John Kerry.

All income classes, races, and religions listen to him.

9. His whole show isn't about sex
I started listening out of curiousity because a friend of mine that knows I loathe this admin, is a die hard Stern fan.

She said "you've got to listen to him, he rips bush daily...you'll love it"

I immediately thought yuck what a pig, but my curiousity got the best of me and I tuned in.

The show is addictive.

Yeah some days it's beyond crude, but a lot of times it isn't and Stern can bush bash with the best of them.

There's something about Stern's self deprecating humor and Robyn's wry sarcasm that just amuses the hell out of me.

I refuse to apologize for my "poor taste" I think the show is a hoot!

3. I don't listen to Howard
But when this happened, I said he would deal a tough blow to bushco, perhaps even be a turning point.

4. Actually he was pro-Shrub...
Then Micahel Powell went after him for being "lewd" on the radio, and started to fine him and have him removed from many stations. This is what pissed of Stern, and he started going after Shrub. So in a sense they really shot themselves in the foot by messing with Stern...

20. You Have The Chronology Wrong
Edited on Wed Jun-30-04 09:00 PM by Beetwasher
He read Al Franken's book and started to talk about it and started Bashing Bush and THEN and ONLY THEN did the FCC (post-Janet Jackson) came down hard and CC dropped him.

The full chronology is actually this:

2000 he voted for Gore
9/11 he decided to give Bush the benefit of the doubt
Backed the Iraq war and Bush
Got Franken's book and it opened his eyes and he started his criticisms
Janet Jackson
FCC comes down hard on Stern and CC drops him

zidzi. I couldn't be more grateful for the way his evolution has progressed! I've heard the soldiers get to hear him in Iraq..I hope that's true.

ONe more example of the cons(stands for confidence gamers) over reaching!

6. Stern show was touching today. Marky Ramone of the Ramones called in
called in and echoed Stern's "we must vote for Kerry" mantra... He also said Joey would be freaking out if he were alive.

Lots of folks called in from Pa and Fla, thrilled that Howard was back on the air there. Howard's Dad called in too, told Howard how proud he was and how much he loved him.

Stern is going at Bush on all eight cyl. It is exhilerating.

12. I keep waiting to see one of these shows (on E.)
Instead I always seem to tune in when he is having strippers compete to see how many coins they can pick up with their ass cheeks, or when they are having farting contests.

15. Stern is cool.
I am a black female attorney who grew-up in south-central Los Angeles. I attended a top ten law school and I admire Stern. (How unlikely is this scenario?)If you hate the stripper shit, then tune him out. It doesn't bother me that he talks about sex. But he has been blasting bush and also had an effect in the recent California gubernatorial election. I saw polls that indicated that young males were more inclined to vote for Arnold because of Stern's endorsement. In fact wimpy Arnold kissed his ass and publicly blasted the FCC. Arnold knows where his bread is buttered and we should take advantage of the fact that he has gained three markets in Florida - a swing state. Also, he is in Pittsburgh and Ohio. Moreover, he does not expect Kerry to kiss his ass because he (Stern) is a political liability. I admire that, too. Moreover, he had Michael Moore on his show and is promoting F 9-11 for free. He has an audience of six million listeners. Please do not discount his power.

Asscroft cares about sex; I care about winning. Democrats are about the First Amendment. No one here is a captive audience regarding Howard Stern.

I also saw Stern's press conference on my local L.A. news station.

Let's not get hung up on the sex shit. We want to win!

24. Howard talked about that yesterday
He doesn't have any control over what portions of the radio show E uses on the TV show, and he explained that E feels that the titillation stuff is what fits their style. He did say that he's going to press E to include some of his anti - Bush rants on the TV show but E is very reluctant to air anything political.

Can someone tell me If I can listen to him over the Internet and where I can find his radio show at?

I stopped listening to him after 9/11 when he was in his * love fest mode.

14. I love to see someone fight back for what is right.
I dont like everything Howard does, but it's no worse than Mike Savage or "Jackass" or whatever sex reality show is on...I think he may very well be a political target.

23. Pittsburgh and Orlando. Direct hits in swing voter country.
Expect the Bushies to begin negotiating at any time. Stern has them by the short hairs.

Watch for Howard to get a big raise, a loud public apology from Clear Channel, and a quiet cancellation of his FCC fines. Then watch him shut up about Bush shortly thereafter. Or am I being too cynical?
