Latham renews Iraq withdrawal pledge
Federal Opposition leader Mark Latham has reiterated his promise to withdraw Australian troops from Iraq before the end of this year if Labor wins the election.

In Sydney, Mr Latham has made a major speech on Labor's policies on Iraq, outlining plans to give economic and humanitarian aid.

Mr Latham says Labor will not be backing down from its policy of withdrawing Australian troops operating in Iraq and says Labor will take advice on the security of the Australian diplomatic mission in Baghdad.

Mr Latham says the best contribution Australia can make is to help rebuild Iraq, committing $75 million over two years to the job.

and pretty smart to put Beazley back in the ministry, though this may upset those who left the party because of Beazley's condoning the Liberals handling of the Tampa and have been drifting back.
