Hacking family: More searches unnecessary
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (CNN) -- The family of a missing Utah woman said her husband has given them information that makes the search for Lori Hacking unnecessary.

Family members would not divulge the information and police said they were unaware of any such information.

Mark Hacking, Lori's husband, remained hospitalized at the University of Utah Hospital's psychiatric ward where he was admitted after he reported his wife missing the morning of July 19.

1. Very sad case, indeed
I don't know how this guy thought he would get away with this (now here I am presuming him guilty)--I mean to report your wife missing and then use your credit card and buy a new box spring mattress? cm'on didn't he know the police would be looking at him hard? what was his excuse? I guess this guy doesn't have the cold blooded cool of a Scott Petersen (again presuming guilt)after all he fell to pieces, Scott is still sticking to his story.

2. even crazier, how he thought he could get away with it
while the scott peterson trial is going on.

it must have been an unplanned crime of passion. either that, or the guy's just unbelievably stupid.

feel bad for both families.

10. The only way someone could get away with it
would be if there were no family..

If there is no insurance and no family, all one would have to do is to tell friends there that they were moving.. The body could be "disposed of" in an out of the way...on the way to the new spot..

The people at the new community would have no way of knowing anything that they were not told..

3. Press Conferance?
Wasn't there supposed to be a press conferance sometime yesterday or today? Did anyone hear it?

4. I don't like to read these types of stories, and here is my reason...
It seems that there is a pattern to these in that they pick a good looking middle class white woman that will draw the public sympathy. Why is it that you never hear about a black female or a hispanic female who might have been in a similar situation in a poor urban areas talked about in the same context? There is something defenitely peculiar going on in the media and I think this should be more openly discussed.

I am not implying this isn't a great tragedy, I just don't think I should get this much press coverage, and we have much more pressing issues....

6. I agree
we're not obliged to pay disproportionate attention to this case, just because the media tells us to. We can say B.S. and tune it out, so we should do that.

7. Because the Sharks are not co-operating...
Seriously, how many people killed or mauled by sharks this summer?

The Nets need SOMETHING to cover the BFEE turning the US into a Fascist enclave like Albania...

5. This is really sad
Why does this type of thing happen so often in the United States?

I was watching MSNBC last week and a scroll across the bottom of the screen said that some father in California had pushed his 4 year old daughter off a cliff because he didn't want to pay child support.

I haven't heard another report on this story since.

It's the stories that we DON'T hear that scares me.

I guess we believe in America that we throw something away when we decide that we don't need it anymore.

Including each other.

11. Not to be offensive, but I go to DU to escape these kind of stories.
The regular media overplay them to distract from"real news".Fortunately the Hacking story will effect few lives and is a non issue.Children and women and our soldiers dying in Iraq is a real issue because it is done in our name. The actions of one wacko , while sad, is simply a local police issue, and doesn't merit discussion.JMHO.
