Kerry's Sister Angers Abortion Foes
A Catholic antiabortion group sharply questioned the propriety of John F. Kerry's sister, Peggy Kerry, giving a speech to "a campaign crowd of feminists" in Boston and telling them that, if elected, her brother would overturn various Bush policies -- such as barring funds for U.N. population control efforts.

Not surprising that she'd be campaigning for her brother, the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute noted, but she "works for George W. Bush" as part of the U.S. mission to the United Nations.

The institute, a nonprofit that works with the United Nations, acknowledged that Kerry, a career civil servant, broke no law in giving the speech, but it questioned how she can represent Bush's policies if she's bashing them.

"At one time, career civil servants, like Kerry, were forbidden to make campaign appearances," the group said, "though that has now changed. What is not yet clear is whether Kerry violated any internal State Department guidelines."

The answer appears to be no.

1. Look at them long for the good ol' bad ol' days
That policy changed when civil servants got workers rights didn't it?...when they were no longer political appointees? Providing some continuity of govt, that thing St Paul's mayor suddenly values so heavily, but without any job security.

8. Neil Bush, brother of GWB, son of GHWB angers honest
people of all stripes -

http://www.austinchronicle.com/issues/dispatch/2001-03-16/pols_feature3.html

In 1990, Bush paid a $50,000 fine and was banned from banking activities for his role in taking down Silverado, which actually cost taxpayers $1.3 billion. A Resolution Trust Corporation Suit against Bush and other officers of Silverado was settled in 1991 for $26.5 million. And the fine wasn't exactly paid by Neil Bush. A Republican fundraiser set up a fund to help defer costs Neil incurred in his S&L dealings. Friends and relatives contributed -- but not then-President and Barbara Bush, which would have been unseemly. Since then, the Bush political combine has done such a remarkable job keeping Neil in the background that what seemed like a 10- year news blackout didn't end until mid-February, when the Austin Business Journal reported that Bush "quietly is heading a local start-up that's raising at least $10 million in second-round funding." According to the business newsweekly, Bush has already raised $7.1 million from 53 investors underwriting Ignite! Inc., an educational software company. After being banned from banking and all but airbrushed out of the family portrait -- or at least the family news profile -- Neil Bush is back.

Bush wasn't just an average S&L exec drawing a big salary and recklessly pushing a federally insured institution beyond its lending limits. As a director of a failing thrift in Denver, Bush voted to approve $100 million in what were ultimately bad loans to two of his business partners. And in voting for the loans, he failed to inform fellow board members at Silverado Savings & Loan that the loan applicants were his business partners. Federal banking regulators later followed the trail of defaulted loans to Neil Bush oil ventures, in particular JNB International, an oil and gas exploration company awarded drilling concessions in Argentina -- despite its complete lack of experience in international oil and gas drilling. It probably helped that the Bush family had cultivated close ties with the fabulously corrupt Carlos Menem, former president of Argentina.

9. Humanity trumps politics anyday, you pro-life pinheads...
...and her work is vital and necessary.

I'd hardly call the UN's work in population control "Bush's policies", unless it involves firebombing.

Ask me again, please....WHY did I leave the Catholic church?

10. Criticism is not "bashing."
...it questioned how she can represent Bush's policies if she's bashing them.

One more time, criticism, presented in civil manner, is not "bashing."

11. Glad that they cleared up the question about breaking laws by speaking
:eyes:

I know, the "law" that might have been broken was the executive order (first thing W did in office) not allowing anyone who receives funds from speaking, writing letters to the editor, or marching in any way that might be seen as pro birth control or pro choice.
