Feds twist facts for logging, critics say
Haven't seen this posted. The bush admin took advantage of the wild fires (which were arson) to argue for more logging to help the spotted owl. Of course they didn't let science or facts get in their way....

MOSQUITO RIDGE, Calif. - The Forest Service exaggerated the effect of wildfires on California spotted owls to justify a planned increase in logging in the Sierra Nevada, according to a longtime agency expert who worked on the plan.

Other wildlife biologists inside and outside the Forest Service confirm that at least seven of 18 sites listed by the agency as owl habitat destroyed by wildfires are green, flourishing and occupied by the rare birds of prey.

"The only reason the revisions were made was to allow logging of bigger trees," said Chad Hanson, director of the John Muir Project, which is appealing the plan to Forest Service chief Dale Bosworth. "It was a gift to the timber industry."

1. This is so fucked up
Take care of the tree farms around the old growth and the fires won't get hot enough to burn the old growth. I hate these people. They are just destroying every single thing they touch. It also makes me very angry when environmentalists focus more on the stupid owl than the old growth. People would care about old growth if they understood 96% of it is gone. They'll never care all that much about an owl.
