2. What the fuck is a non-hostile gunshot wound???
And doesn't that saying disprove the whole "guns don't kill people" idea???

3. Really, even if it is an accident or a suicide...
It is still pretty damned hostile since the man is dead!

RIP.

6. 920 and it's only August 3.
I hope this month isn't another April. Too many lives lost and no one at home seems to care except liberals!

7. I'm not numbers-conscious
I have a close relative in Iraq with a very dangerous job, so believe me, I hate this invasion as much as anyone.

I hate this invasion/occupation for what it's doing to world peace.

I also hate the deaths to our troops and to Iraqis. And I hate the separations of military families brought this fiasco.

But I don't get caught up in numbers. +1000 Americans are killed in alcohol related accidents each month (Link) So I'm not surprised if America ignores the body count. They might view it as acceptable.

For me, the key is to remind people of the counterproductive results of this invasion. It hasn't improved the Middle East. We'd have been better off spending our money a more peaceful way if we wanted peace there.

9. That is not a good analogy.
Comparing deaths of soldiers in an illegal war to drunk driving deaths is absurd.

And don't give me that as an excuse for what the media covers and doesn't cover. The big news every day fluctuates between missing woman in Utah and dead pregnant woman in California. How many women die every day at the hands of their husbands? Yet the news people MAKE A CONSCIOUS CHOICE to only cover these two. Their job is to inform us on national issues, especially ongoing wars. I don't care if there was only one death in Iraq. It should be covered because our Treasury is being pilfered in the billions every month that passes to provide what? Security for me or for the Iraqis? How about neither.

13. The point is that these 1,000 troops wouldn't be dead
if we hadn't invaded Iraq.

There might even be fewer alcohol-related accidents if we spent some money on health care and alcoholism treatment instead of billions on Iraq.

14. my point is I'm not watching the body count
like it's the stock market or something with milestones as some kind of proof of the stupidity of this war.

17. You and I and fellow DU'ers.....
may care about only one soldier's death or maiming in this illegal war, but let's face it - most of the American public just doesn't get it until milestones are reached. The same goes for the media. They won't report an "odd" number like 920, but when it hits the 1,000 mark they will probably report it (we would hope). In order to wake up the slumbering American public, you have to pander to their level, which unfortunately, is about an 8th grade level. Do a little informal survey at work sometime to see how many people are even aware that we've lost 920 soldiers. But, oh boy, ask them about Kobe Bryant or Laci Peterson and they'll know every detail. It's a sad commentary on our culture.

12. IF this is an accidental shooting, and
IF I hear anybody say that this guy is just as much of a hero as any other soldier who dies in a combat zone, I will point out: 'just like Max Cleland'.
