RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - A former CIA contractor being held without bail in the beating of an Afghan prisoner who later died should be released because he is neither a flight risk nor a danger to the community, his lawyer argued Tuesday.
David Passaro faces four counts of assault and assault with a dangerous weapon - a large flashlight - on Abdul Wali, the detainee who died at a U.S. base in Afghanistan last June.

Passaro, 38, worked as a CIA contractor while on leave from a civilian job with the Fort Bragg-headquartered Special Operations Command.

According to prosecutors, the former Army Green Beret was interrogating Wali before his death. If convicted, Passaro faces up to 40 years in prison and a $1 million fine.

1. He stands accused of beating another human being to death
and is no danger to his community? That takes the cake...

3. I read an article...
Where his neighbors considered him strange and prone to temper displays.

Just a self-actualizing young man of the new millenium. Is all.

4. He's not a flight risk, either, interestingly enough.

5. Yeah..let alone the fact that he lied about the weapons he owned
and was once in trouble as a police officer for brutality...no history there...no siree...as a matter of fact, his history as a police officer it seems, should have precluded the CIA from contracting his services.

2. Would we seek less if an American died in reverse circumstances???
40 years and no parole?
