Republican candidate admits supporting eugenics
04 August 2004

The Republican congressional candidate James L Hart has acknowledged that he is an unapologetic supporter of eugenics, the fake science that resulted in thousands of people being sterilized in an attempt to purify the white race.

He believes the country will look "like one big Detroit" - which has a large African-American population - if it doesn't eliminate welfare payments and immigration. He believes that if blacks were integrated centuries ago, the automobile would never have been invented.

Mr Hart has been said to turn up at voters' homes wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying a gun, telling them that "white children deserve the same rights as everyone else".

But, despite his radical views, Mr Hart may end up winning the Republican nomination in a north-western Tennessee district because he is the only Republican candidate on the ballot in tomorrow's primary. His presence in the campaign has embarrassed Republican leaders, who were blind-sided by Mr Hart after they didn't bother fielding a candidate. John Tanner, a Democrat, has held the seat for 15 years.

Boy, the republicans really have some winners in their ranks. This guy is right up there, with the homophobic republican from Florida, that Jon Stewart had on the other night.

3. "Admits"? More like "brags". That's what "unapologetic" means.

7. I like a Republican who wears his party's racism and intentions
on his sleeve...I, of course, hope the Democrat wins but I am glad to have another David Duke type to hang like a banner on the Republican party...this is what the party stands for..isn't it?

9. We've got one just like him in North Carolina
Check out Vernon Robinson. Except - Vernon Robinson is black. That makes his ads featuring Leave it to Beaver clips, in which he waxes nostalgic about the good old days, that much more ironic.

10. And we have a similar emabarrasment of a candidate
here Montgomery/Harris County where a guy named James Wright is running against long time incumbent Republican Kevin Brady. Though I agree with some of his positions, he is pro-life, pro-gun, a Kennedy conspiracy theorist and a Roswell conspiracy theorist. He also advocates abolishment of the IRS. And when he goes off on some of these tangents, locals Dems are very embarrassed. But nobody ran against him in the primary, because Brady is considered unbeatable here.

Not that this would ever happen, but I get the feeling if he were elected, he would become a Zell Miller type of Democrat.

11. There is a difference
Though this guy may be an embarrassment to the Democratic party, his positions are in the mainstream of Republican thought. The repugs. won't be able to use this against the Democratic party for they will end up criticizing their own positions on social issues.

However, eugenics is completely different. It evokes images of Hitler and genocide. These are definitely not Democratic positions and can very easily be exploited against the repugs.

12. He'll fit right in with the other right wing wackos.
As we slide toward the depths of fundamentalism, there will be more politicians like this Mr. Hart oozing into office.
