Report Proves Bush Knew He Was Lying About Iraq
Earlier this week, President Bush claimed "we all thought we would find stockpiles of weapons"<1> in Iraq, and claimed that he had no inkling that his pre-war claims about the Iraqi threat were weak. But as a major new story released today shows, the President and other top administration officials were repeatedly warned before the invasion that its case for war was weak.

The cover story for this month's In These Times analyzes declassified government documents and intelligence reports given to the White House before the war. These documents either warned the administration about its WMD and Iraq-al Qaeda claims, or totally debunked them. In some cases, intelligence experts explicitly warned top officials not to make the claims they were making, and yet they were ignored. The story wholly refutes assertions by the White House and Republicans that it was the intelligence community to blame. In fact, as the data shows, the White House deliberately ignored intelligence to mislead America.

They Knew...
Despite the whitewash, we now know that the Bush administration was warned before the war that its Iraq claims were weak
By David Sirota and Christy Harvey

*snip*

Top administration officials repeatedly ignored warnings that their assertions about Iraq’s supposed Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) and connections to al Qaeda were overstated. In some cases, they were told their claims were wholly without merit, yet they went ahead and made them anyway. Even the Senate report admits that the White House “misrepresented” classified intelligence by eliminating references to contradictory assertions.

In short, they knew they were misleading America.

And they did not care.

3. Mike Malloy had a wonderful segment about those WMD lies
and misinformation on his show last night, and it was unbelievably awesome. Did anyone here at DU hear his show? Can't figure out how he was able to put all that stuff together, but then, I've always thought of him as being somewhat of a genius when it comes to talk radio. :toast:  :dem:

8. Woodward quotes Bush as saying, "Is that ALL you've got"?
I guess we don't trust Woodward report the truth. Here's a quote from Cheney, made on August 26, 2002----"There is no doubt that he is amassing them (WMD) to use against our friends, against our allies and against us". I guess we should trust him....he has secret information that cannot be shared with the little people!

13. No, you can't trust Woodward anymore. He's a whore for access.
John Dean said something about that. Talking about how Bob Woodward is doing things a little differently these days, than when he and Carl Bernstein were teamed up on the Watergate story. Now, it's the access. Woodward wants it. They give it to him. But there's a price. And because he got up to the highest heights and inside the deepest innards at the White House, he doesn't want to blow it. Not many other reporters, even the Pox "news" people, didn't have the access he did. And he knew it. And he didn't DARE want to piss them off, and jeopardize his cozy position with them on the extreme inside. Something about biting the hand that feeds...

10. Mass Media Ignores the Fraud!
Most Americans wouldn't care even if they were provided 100% proof of the pre-invasion fraud. Saddam was a bad person. He helped terrorists attack America. Iraqis now have democracy. The Pres. says he would've invaded even if he knew that there were no WMDs in Iraq. The Bushit is accepted and most Americans don't care. If thousands of troops were dying that might be different but 2 to 4 a week doesn't bother them that much. After all, the Bush Admin. is protecting America, keeping America safe and bringing freedom to Iraq.

14. No high expectations.
The Mass Media is now controlled by the Neo Fascists. America is split almost evenly between Right and Left and about 50% don't vote and most are apathetic and believe what the media spews out. It will be a minor miracle if Kerry/Edwards win. Even if they did we still have Neo Fascist control over Congress and most courts. It will be a power struggle for Kerry/Edwards to get anything done and they will have inherited a massive deficit, Iraq and Afghanistan and a large unemployment problem.
