Shiite militia declares war on British troops in Iraq

BASRA, Iraq (AFP)

Militiamen loyal to Shiite Muslim radical leader Moqtada Sadr declared holy war against British forces based in Iraq's main southern city of Basra after four of their comrades were arrested.

Three Mehdi Army militiaman were later killed during a 15-minute gunfight with British troops on Al-Gama bridge in northern Basra, said Sheikh Saad al-Basri, Sadr's representative in the overwhelmingly Shiite city.

The area is a bastion of Sadr support in the city. ..

An AFP photographer saw British troops deployed in armoured vehicles and tanks around Sadr's main offices and elsewhere in the city. ..

All these lives... men who never in their wildest dreams would have bombed a Christian church.... sneered at American interests.... given an American the finger.... or even farted in our general direction.... now dead.. leaving wives... children... brothers... mothers... fathers... and NOT ONE OF THEM A TERRORIST!!!!!!!!!! 2. The crime these people committed was that

they happen to be citizens of a country that has a vast reserve of petroleum. Apparently, this is sufficient evidence to be accused tried and convicted of terrorism and "freedom hating". The death sentence is carried out by boy-men soldiers.
