1. good for them, they'll at least get an injunction to stop the ads from
running while a judge sorts it out

Hopefully someone will have a cleaner version

Me thinkins "HumanEvents" likes the smeared version so it it hard to read.

The facts boiled down:
None of the "Swiftboat Veterans for (so-called) Truth" served with Kerry on his boat.

John O'Neill, did not even serve on a swiftboat until after Kerry's swiftboat service.

Every single man, save one, who actually served by Kerry's side testified to his courage under fire.

3. Good for Kerry - it's time to kick the right wing's ass
Kerry should have his people mention Bush every single time they talk about the lying ads.

Tie these ads to Bush and talk about Bush's credibility problems, etc.

6. That would open the door
To having Moore and all the other 527 attack ads hung around our necks. My question is why are all these vets challenging the Kerry story line of how he won his medals? Should they be sued by the DNC for smearing Kerry?

9. There is nothing libelous about Moore or any of the ads...
that I have seen. They could have been a great deal more agressive, but they chose not to do so. The documentation of Kerry's decorations is complete and unabridged, for everyone to see. The only reason that these issues are ven being pursued is because the Repubs KNOW that * is a coward and avoided service to his country through his political connections, end of story. As far as the potential lawsuit by the DNC, I see nothing wrong with the letter they sent, especially considering the bullshit that the RW media spews every day.

25. Welcome to DU pifflePill. I don't think that the repukes can squirm
out of this by bashing Moore and MoveOn. I think that an injunction, along with McCain's statement should do it. If not, an ad by the band of brothers that states: "Some people who were not there want to question Kerry's heroism...Well, they were not on board with him. We were on board with him then and we are on board with him now. We know that he will never sit still while America is under attack."

4. Drudge states the letter above is misleading and not factual.
That's what he says...just letting you know..

The letter ends with he statement that television stations are warned about showing the ad and are responsible for libel.

19. Agreed.
Wouldn't the DNC's letterhead have been on the letter, if this was really from them?

23. Lack of DNC letterhead only means
Rove's hand is not involved in this imposter letter or he didn't have time to steal a real copy.

<snip>
1970 - Karl Rove sneaks into the campaign office of Illinois Democrat Alan Dixon and steals some letterhead. He then prints up 1,000 party invitations promising "free beer, free food, girls and a good time for nothing," which he then distributes to homeless shelters.

10. I Don't Believe a Word of It
coming from Drudge as it does. The letter doesn't even have a business letterhead. Have you ever gotten correspondence from a lawyer that didn't have a letterhead? I know whereof I speak!

for his actions? I dunno, why not ask Clinton? Stupid Dumbya won't even admit he isn't perfect - oh, yeah, I forgot, he talks to God directly so it's Gods fault :eyes:

21. Welcome to the board, Gibby.
We welcome all comments around here, even those opposed to our own! You will not get flamed. I do want to make a point, however. This is not an attack on you as it is not your fault that they have slanted the media this way and it is all Amerika has to listen to. You have been duped - misled, if you will. Stick around and find out the truth that the corporate press will not tell you.

You will find we encourage free speech - even those who do not agree with us. We like a good debate as long as it is backed with facts and regurgitated because the corporate press says so.

Just to let you in on a little history - these men did not serve with Kerry but they are making it look as if they did. Kerry served honorably and you can even read his exact records that prove this. Some of these men have been known to dislike Kerry just because, when he came back, he spoke out against the war. They are assassinating a hero's character and this should not happen.

If you have evidence that this is not true, please speak up and provide credible links. If any of it is true, I would be saddened to hear it but would want to anyway. I was listening to Rush Limbaugh today and he, himself, said that these men read the records and interpreted what they saw. These men were not there. I tend to believe people who were on the boat with him rather than someone who served after Kerry got out.

Again, welcome to our home.

22. Freedom of speech does include a freedom to lie. But slanderers and liars
Edited on Thu Aug-05-04 06:46 PM by w4rma
also can be sued for libel in court for ignoring facts and intentionally lying to the public in order to defame someone's good name.

Without libel laws any one of us could be blackmailed and or bullied by folks with control over a media outlet by printing lies and no (or a warped version of a) counterargument.

As I susperct you know, Free Speech does not include SLANDER or LIBEL, so these ads are not free speech.

Why do we even bother posting crap from Drudge, anyway? He is no friend of Democrats and other progressives.
