Resistance Captures US General In Ramadi
Aug 04, 2004
By Omar al-Faris, JUS

In the latest news in Iraq, resistance fighters have captured a US general in Ramadi. The Americans went ballistic with this news and closed all roads in and out of the city. Heavy fighting is currently underway.

It appears something major is breaking in the city. Details are just coming in and information is limited as of press time. More details are to come as they are available, inshaAllah.

That is the entire story.
A google news search revealed nothing more.
It doesn't sound like it couldn't have happened.

5. Shame we have to go to foreign news sources
to get any kind of info on the situation in Iraq. Not that I would trust just one source, but I'll keep an ear out for further info from alternate sources.

6. OK let's go thru this.
Do you think that fighting is ongoing in Mosul.

Do you think we tried to capture AlSadr on
Tuesday
and were beaten back w/ casualties.
Fighting erupts in Karbala’ as US surrounds home of Muqtada as-Sadr.

Agence France Presse (AFP) reported on Monday from an-
Najaf that eyewitnesses saw US aggressor troops encircling
the house of Shi‘i religious leader Muqtada as-Sadr in the
city. US armored vehicles backed up by Iraqi puppet
security men formed a ring around the az-Zahra’
neighborhood in the eastern part of Karbala’ where
Muqtada as-Sadr’s house is located.

The witnesses reported that fierce fighting erupted between
the Jaysh al-Mahdi militia, loyal to as-Sadr, and US
invader troops.  Clouds of black smoke were seen rising and
the sound of gun and mortar fire could be heard.
Thunderous explosions of rocket-propelled grenades were
also reported.

A US helo was shown on the ground in Najaf.

9. yes there's lots of battling- jmcgowanjm
there is ongoing fighting throughout iraq everyday, including mosul
and yes- those troops could have been trying to get al-sadr, and maybe they didn't "get lost" within blocks of the biggest opposition to the occupation.

so why not?

11. So why can I not find one US detailed report from Iraq
explaining something about Fallujah Ramadi Mosul
Najaf.

I remember the reporting from the last days
of Vietnam. We were winning til we left.
Same in Iraq.

Our army is being taken apart in Iraq. Feel a Draft?

the Army's Individual Ready Reserve, or IRR. There's
no one left after these guys.

13. I think you understand your history jmc
we have very little knowledge of what is actually happening
but if I was up for reelection
invaded another country without good reason
and it wasn't going so well
I wouldn't be trumpeting any bad news either

8. Here it is :Mafkarat al Islam
Edited on Thu Aug-05-04 08:00 PM by jmcgowanjm
Tuesday, 3 August 2004.

US General captured by Resistance; fighting rages in ar-Ramadi.

In a dispatch posted at 4:40pm Tuesday, Mecca time,
the correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam in ar-Ramadi
reported that fierce fighting had been raging in the area of the
city since 9:30am and that in some places it had grown
into direct and bloody battles at such close quarters that
US Apache helicopters are unable to take part for fear of
hitting their own troops.

The correspondent wrote that the fighting was under way in
the area of the sports playing field, al-Fajjariyah, and near
the Agricultural College, and it was also raging around
the Maternity Hospital.

US troops closed off all roads leading to the city of ar-
Ramadi and the correspondent has no information on the
extent of casualties as a result of the violent fighting under
way because of the danger of approaching the front
lines.

The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam wrote, however,
that Resistance forces launched a painful attack at the
US aggressor troops in which they captured an
American General on Tuesday morning.  The General
was accompanying a US column heading from a US outpost
to the command headquarters, set up by the Americans in
the Republican Palace in ar-Ramadi.

The capture of the American general sparked the fighting, as
US forces moved to close all roads to and from ar-Ramadi
to prevent his being taken outside the city area.  US forces
are insisting that they will not open the roads until
the Resistance hands the(General)
back to them
