Two U.S. Marines killed in Najaf fighting
Two days of fighting in Baghdad and Najaf have left two U.S. Marines and more than 25 insurgents dead, Iraqi and American officials said.

Baghdad's Sadr City neighborhood was quiet Friday morning, a day after clashes between U.S. forces and the militia loyal to radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr left 19 Iraqis dead and 111 others wounded, officials said. The Iraqi deaths included civilians and fighters, who died during the battles that began Thursday and lasted into the night.

U.S. soldiers battled small bands of the Mehdi Army militia with machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades, Capt. Brian O'Malley of the U.S. Army's 1st Cavalry Division said. O'Malley said the fighters were "quickly dispersed or obliterated." Children -- as young as 6 -- threw Molotov cocktails at U.S. troops, O'Malley said.
Sadr City is a poor Shiite neighborhood named after al-Sadr's late father.

4. I was marching against it from the beginning as were many people
we were a "focus group", and no one listened to us.
we all knew this would happen.

7. Mari, my children and I were a part of that focus group
I marched when I was on vacation in Miami and three times in Washington DC. I dragged my children with and we were called all sorts of names by the good moral Republicans-- my eight year old son, to this day, says that he knows George Bush is not a nice man because of how his "team" treated us.

You're right-- We knew! How come our government claims they didn't know?

9. I too was one of those "kooks" who handed out flyers and went to
candlelight vigils, etc. We were shouted at and sneered at when we said this war was going to be a disaster. I wish we hadn't been so right.

8. AlJazeera says fighting continues.
Edited on Fri Aug-06-04 08:45 AM by jmcgowanjm
There was no word on US casualties in Fallujah.

Could one of the Mods direct me to a non gossip site that
talks about what's going on in Ramadi, Mosul,
and Fallujah.

Is AlJazeera a gossip site?

11. Yes, and if we just kill a few more, everything will be fine
Let's see . . . 140,000 US troops, 25 million Iraqis . . . Hmm . . . whom do YOU think has the long-term strategic & military advantage here?
