Clinton on 'Daily Show,' but he's skipping `Saturday Night Live'
The Associated Press

NEW YORK - Bill Clinton has been all over television promoting his new book. But one show he won't be visiting is "Saturday Night Live."

The former president has turned down an invitation to be guest host of the NBC sketch-comedy series next season, spokesman Marc Liepis confirmed Friday. No reason was given for Clinton rejecting the offer, first reported by TV Guide Online.

But far from going into retreat, Clinton will sit down with Jon Stewart on Comedy Central's "Daily Show" Monday at 11 p.m. EDT, presumably to say more about his best-selling memoir, "My Life," as well as global affairs and the presidential race. ..

.. Fueled by Clinton's ongoing publicity blitz, his book has sold more than 1.5 million copies since its June 22 release.

1. He won't do SNL? Oh I don't know why . . .
Perhaps it was the 2-3 years of blowjob jokes?

3. I'm also not sure it's the most appropriate forum
for a former president, though I would've definitely watched. :)

13. Agreed,
Tho Sharpton did a mean rendition of "I Feel Good" during his appearance.

5. all the talk would be whether he would do a blow job skit
even before the actual snl aired where he to accept. the talk would all be about whether they would do a skit on that. even though i'm sure they could do the entire show and make it funnyw ithout mentioning it. all he talk would be about the bj again. i'm glad he turned it down. maybe he can do it very later in life when he is less active and mostly retires. but for now he needs to keep his good name since he has so much power and influence around the world to do good.

9. I swear I saw that picture on b3ta this morning.
Anyways, even if Clinton were on snl, I wouldn't watch it.
TV is good for TDS and Cspan. And the occasional British comedy, when the BBC is kind enough to allow.

And it's good.
Can't stay- I'm listening to Bush botch his Cspan speech. It's right about at the good part, too.

Then it's back to photoshopping. I've got an elephant trunk to paste onto that smirky face of his...

WYH, an or etc.

14. You gotta admit
Daryl Hammond's Clinton was priceless. That, coupled with Molly Shannon's Monica (always in that stupid beret) and John Goodman's Linda Tripp was the best. They did one funny episode where Monica, Clinton and Saddam were on three way calling, and Saddam says to Monica, "Monica, THANKS, I got that hat you sent me!" And they show Hussein wearing his usual black beret.

SNL had it right. Those events played like some ridiculous comedy, and hardly the high drama the right wing tried to make it out to be.

16. They had to do the jokes, I agree.
But no comedy show was MORE associated with the Clinton/Monica "scandal" than SNL was, specificly because it was one of their longest running items. And that's still fresh in peoples' minds. I think Clinton is intelligent enough to know that SNL absolutely was going to do that sort of thing, and I don't think he has some sort of grudge. However, he also doesn't want to associate himself, his book, or the Democratic Party with the Monica Lewinski story right now, so I think he is right to avoid SNL.

4. SNL probably wanted to do sex/Monica skits
I think Clinton has too much respect for his wife and daughter to be a part of that.

8. I'm glad he turned SNL down.
It would be beneath him. Plus he probably wouldn't be very good doing skits.

11. I'm glad he said no too, but he'd be very good at skits!
Hell, I thought McCain did a good job on SNL, and he's not even close to the performing abilities of BC!

I agree, you can't trust SNL to keep it lite and lively, so it was a good decision to turn them down, but you're wrong on not doing skits well.

10. there's a good reason for this:
The Daily Show is funny

SNL hasn't been funny for at least 10 years

17. Good!
I love Bill but that sure could go "bad" on him. I would rather him keep his dignified ex-president persona and keep Hilary from being the butt of any more jokes.

Stewart is a liberal, but that doesn't mean he won't ask an uncomforatable question.

He was the Prez, Monica, yada yada yada.

Stewart gave him a zinger for his convention remarks.

22. Probably the piss poor writing on SNL
SNL has to be the most outmoded, outdated, and boring attempt at television comedy since, well, err SNL circa 1982.

23. Good. It's bad enough that
chimp has turned the office of the President into a laughingstock, we don't need Clinton adding to it. Once Kerry holds the office we want it to be looked up to with respect again. :-)
