MSNBC: Bush protestor "shouted down by journalists"

Bush, Kerry squabble over jobs data

President says economy is 'moving forward'; no way, says Democrat
MSNBC staff and news service reports

Updated: 3:05 p.m. ET Aug. 6, 2004

---snip---

“The atmosphere was totally different than Kerry yesterday,” reported MSNBC.com’s Darrell Bowling. “There were protesters outside … they were handing out leaflets. … When Bush came in, people stood up, but it was just polite applause. It was not the reception Kerry received." Bowling said at least one protester in the audience who confronted Bush was shouted down by journalists and then whisked away by security agents.

1. The right wing media mainstream is now defending Bush physically?
They've been defending him on paper and on the airwaves for years, now they are acting as bodyguards as well?

Is anyone surprised?

7. Not surprised. I expect the journalists to fisticuffs
The lies are coming out about the jobs last month and when the whole truth comes out there will be no improvements on the job scene. The journalists will go ballistic trying to cover for him.

...not the other way around.

I find it amusing how many Bush critics get this relationship completely backwards. Why wouldn't the press protect their guy? They made him in the first place:

>>> Bush: "blub blub blub misunderestimate blub drooool"

>>> Anchor: "Oh yes, we have noticed that since Bush was sworn in 3 months ago that he seems SO much more PRESIDENTIAL. In other news, Democrats have to get over it."

And he campaigned on THEIR money, which gave him a 2:1 funding advantage over Gore.

>>> Press: "Dear Bush, please accept this huge check from Media Company and use it as a free pass to dominate the public airwaves."

To the press, Bush is their very own public sector investment and they are going to PROTECT him!

10. from the threads about this, SS took the guy out of the room....
there has been no mention on any of the DU threads I've seen that the protestor was shouted down by journalists.

I got the impression they were too busy laughing a W's scrambled 'answers' to real questions posed by real (minority) journalists.

34. Correct! I watched it on C-Span2 and the heckler was never "shouted down"
In fact he was shouting for awhile during Shrub speech (I couldn't understand what he was saying but the camera kept going to him, and everyone just ignored him.) Then two men walked to the back of the room, stood behind the heckler then the camera showed him being escorted from the room.

Bush got very little applause during his speech. What applause there was, was during the "Q&A" when a reporter asked about disenfranchised voters and affirmative action.

Edited on Sat Aug-07-04 09:19 AM by 54anickel
of how they re-state the shouting down by journalist. How do you shout Sssshh?

http://www.brownsvilleherald.com/ts_comments.php?id=60502_0_10_0_C

snip>

The other spectacle appeared when Bush had to halt his speech due to a loud and determined heckler who emerged from within the journalists.

"Mr. President, there’s not compassion in killing. ... Mr. President, there’s no compassion in lying," the unidentified man repeatedly yelled.

The audience shouted back, "Shut up!" and "Sssshh!"

The person was immediately escorted out by U.S. Secret Service agents.

edit to add another quote of the heckler:

http://www.upi.com/view.cfm?StoryID=20040806-122828-7145r

WASHINGTON, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- President George W. Bush received a polite but decidedly cool reception Friday when he took time from the campaign trail to address a gathering of minority journalists about administration policies.

Applause at the Unity 2004 Conference of Journalists of Color was generally scattered and perfunctory. One heckler tried to interrupt him, shouting "shame on you" for "lying to the American people."

He didn't take any time off from the campaign trail. The whole speech before he started taking questions was nothing but a stump speech. :puke:

The only time that crowd made a noise was clapping for the introduction of one of their peers. Nobody made a peep when that heckler yelled "liar" at Bush. Two SS guys took the guy out but the crowd never shouted down anybody.

it was wrong of them to do that. They should have documented the events and reported what happened, not become part of the news story. But then journalists aren't what they used to be.

30. Compare and contrast w/ journalists and Kerry protestors
If a handful of pro-bush protestors invades a speech by Sen. Kerry, the media whores focus lovingly on them like their presence outweighs that of the 15,000 Kerry supporters.

When an anti-bush protestor stands up in a crowd of imported GOP sheep, the journalists themselves arise to bravely shut him down.

Liberal bias? I'd like to SEE SOME.

The Journalists at this conference were openly lauging at Bush, and Bush made a complete fool of himself.

This is a prime Example of why people need to ignore Mainstream News.

52. Ummmm. . .
"Bush addressed the Unity convention of minority journalists in Washington, where he was received politely, but not nearly as warmly as Kerry had been the previous day.

It was not the reception Kerry received." Bowling said at least one protester in the audience who confronted Bush was shouted down by journalists and then whisked away by security agents."

The journalists WHO WERE THE AUDIENCE and had given Kerry a standing ovation the day before, simply wanted to give the illusion that they respected Bush.

It is not like it was the press corps covering an event. THEY WERE THE AUDIENCE. An audience should get to hear a speaker speak.
