44,000 prison inmates to be RFID-chipped (Ohio)
Just a "wristwatch-sized transmitter." Not implanted. How long, I wonder, before that roll out? Am I a Luddite for not warming up to getting chipped?

44,000 prison inmates to be RFID-chipped

One US state reckons it's cracked how to keep track of all of its 44,000 prison inmates - RFID-chip them.

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRH) has approved a $415,000 contract to trial the tracking technology with Alanco Technologies.

The pilot project will run at the Ross Correctional Facility in Chillicothe, Ohio. If all goes well, the technology could be rolled out to all of the state's inmates in 33 separate facilities. Inmates will wear "wristwatch-sized" transmitters that can detect if prisoners have been trying to remove them and send an alert to prison computers.

Staff will also wear the technology on their belts so they can be tracked for security purposes. Warders can activate an alarm themselves but the alert will also be sent if the transmitter is forcibly removed or the warder is knocked down.

Totally disgusting. I can't believe we're getting to this point now. It's starting to feel like something out a science-fiction movie.

RFID chips headed for hospitals?

July 28 2004
by Michael Kanellos

Could be implanted in both patients and staff

VeriChip, the company that makes RFID tags for humans, has moved one step closer to getting its technology into hospitals.

The Federal Drug Administration issued a ruling on Tuesday that essentially begins a final review process that will determine whether hospitals can use RFID systems from the Palm Beach, Fla.-based company to identify patients and/or permit relevant hospital staff to access medical records, said Angela Fulcher, vice president of marketing and sales at VeriChip.

VeriChip sells 11-millimeter RFID tags that get implanted in the fatty tissue below the right tricep. When near one of Verichip's scanners, the chip wakes up and radios an ID number to the scanner. If the number matches an ID number in a database, a person with the chip under his or her skin can enter a secured room or complete a financial transaction.

15. HMMM... will the transmitter synch
with the barcode tatoo on my Neck.
Anyways, RF frequencies are not very secure, so with a little ingenuity, one could taint the bits so to speak.
But without a paper trail i wouldn't want it any way.

16. Hey they are just sub humans anyway----criminals
Just think of the efficiency with which the New Fascists could use this technology against the Jews.

They could keep better records on any group they considered sub-human. This technology put to work on sub-human criminals will be used to cleanse whole populations some day by guys like ASSWIPE ASSCROFT.

</SARCASM> FOR THOSE TOO DENSE NOT TO RECOGNIZE IT.
