President Bush plans 3 Panhandle stops with McCain

Associated Press

PENSACOLA, Fla. - President Bush plans to campaign with Arizona Sen. John McCain on Tuesday in Florida's military-rich Panhandle. The bus tour starts with a rally in Pensacola and moves to Niceville and Panama City, all cities in the heavily Republican region, which Bush handily won the region in 2000.

McCain, a one-time prisoner of war in Vietnam who challenged Bush for the Republican presidential nomination in 2000, was to accompany the president on all three stops.

Kay Addison, president of the Escambia Federated Republican Women's Club, sees the trip as a way of encouraging GOP turnout.

"We feel like in the Panhandle that 99 percent of registered Republicans have got to vote to take care of the Democrats in South Florida," she said.

1. McCain should not campaign with Bush until he denounces the ads
McCain is such a coward. He lets the Republican party treat him like shit.

He has no balls.

2. There will be a pro-Kerry rally in Pensacola Monday 2 PM
Edited on Sun Aug-08-04 03:36 PM by jpak
at Wall South featuring Sen. Bob Graham and one of Kerry's Swiftboat buddies.

(best that could be done on short notice).

I'm going down to the Civic Center early Tuesday AM (~ 7:00 AM) with my Kerry-Edwards sign before work (gotta leave by 8:30).

The local Dem committee people expect there will be a lot of "fired up" young Dems protesting Bush on Tuesday AM.

I hope there's a good showing...

8. According to the paper here (Pensacola)
Max Cleland is supposed to be here too. And (again, according to the paper) it is supposed to start at 1:30pm.

3. Imo, there's something more to this than meets the eye...
Why is McCain taking such an active role in campaigning for Dubya, considering the vile accusations against him during the 2000 Republican presidential campaign. Dubya furthers the pain by causing embarrassment to McCain by degrading Max Cleland & Kerry. Why, then, hasn't McCain denounced Dubya's character assassination schemes through his actions (refuse to campaign for him)?

Is Dubya holding something over McCain's head? I remember McCain didn't look very enthusiastic when he was sent to New Hampshire (during the Democratic primaries) to campaign for Dubya. I believe McCain is being forced to do something he really doesn't have the enthusiasm to do.

7. Have you seen this?
I found this at The Carpetbagger.

The rift that could split McCain and Bush -- and it's not the Swiftboat hacks

Much was made, with good cause, of John McCain's repudiation of the Swiftboat hacks' twisted attacks on John Kerry's military heroism. McCain has been going above and beyond to help Bush on the campaign trail lately, but even he couldn't stand by and allow such a slanderous attack to go by uncorrected, even if that meant sticking up for Bush's Dem rival.

<snip>

But if you're looking for evidence of a strain in the McCain-Bush relationship, you'll need to look past the Swiftboat nonsense and consider yet another area of McCain frustration with the White House -- over the oft-ignored Boeing corruption scandal.

The Air Force negotiated a contract to lease refueling aircraft from Boeing Co. that could cost hundreds of millions to several billions of dollars more than it should, and followed a procurement strategy that demonstrated poor stewardship of Defense Department funds, according to a long-awaited report by the department's inspector general.

The whole thing smells really bad. Worse, Bush, who has enjoyed generous campaign contributions from Boeing, is directly involved. According to a senior administration official and internal Boeing communications unearthed in a congressional investigation, Bush "personally" asked White House aides to work out the lucrative deal.

The blurb goes on to say that rumsfeld refused to answer McCain's questions, leaving him livid. McCain is running out of patience and speculation is growing about whether he'll start subpoenaing administration officials.

11. Thanks for the heads up on that story.
Now I'm really baffled about McCain's going above & beyond to campaign for this corrupt man. I don't get it.

13. The best speculation I've heard...
...is that McCain wants to remain loyal to the Republican Party in order to be there still in good standing to pick up the pieces after Bush leads the party (and country) to disaster either this fall or inevitably in the near future if God forbid the little smirking piece of shit somehow gets re(s)elected.

I can't think of any other reason that would explain McCain's bending over and spreading his cheeks repeatedly.

4. BREAKING: McCain is officially...
Bush's bitch. McCain withstood 6 years of humiliation and torture in a POW camp, which probably explains why he can still campaign for Bush after all the dirty shit that's been pulled on him. You gotta say this about him: the man has party loyalty. Sad.

5. I don't know why libs like McCain.
He marketed himself as a "straight-shooter," and for some reason people believed him. Just because the man says he speaks the truth doesn't necessarily make it so.

McCain is a politician. They lie. They ALL lie.
