Byron hopes planning will oust (right wing congressman Darrell) Issa
Edited on Sun Aug-08-04 04:49 PM by Democat
He doesn't have the money, but Palomar College professor Mike Byron said Saturday that he hopes to use voter dissatisfaction to oust Republican Rep. Darrell Issa in the Nov. 2 election.

"There is no way to out-spend the richest man in Congress," Byron said Saturday during a Democratic campaign party at a supporter's home. "So we need to focus on activating, energizing and mobilizing supporters to get our message out in other ways."

Instead, Byron, 47, about 20 volunteers and 100 supporters, have spent the last year devising a plan to outmaneuver Issa for the seat representing the 49th Congressional District. The district includes Oceanside, Vista, Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base, Fallbrook, Bonsall, Valley Center, Temecula, Lake Elsinore, Canyon Lake and Wildomar.

Byron's strategy is to target what he calls "ignored" minorities for voter registration, energize Democrats and sway moderates, by knocking on doors and hosting public meetings

Issa is one of the worst of the right wingers. If you have a few extra dollars, it might be worth helping this fight. Issa has so much money, he will probably never lose, but at least they are trying.

1. Issa bankrolled the Grey Davis recall
That alone is reason to get rid of him. Without Issa's money, Arnold would still be an action star.

2. Unfortunately

That's in the second circle of freeperland hell for
California. But hey, he can try... and it would be great
if he succeeds.

3. Local repugs ruined Byron's office grand opening
It was scheduled for Saturday afternoon at a new campaign headquarters in donated space in a store in a shopping center.

One of the volunteers visited other businesses in the strip mall extending an invitation to the event. When she encountered the owner of a bar located in the mall, he said to her, "I support Bush and this event is not going to happen." A short time later, the shopping center landlord called and was told to be off the property by the end of next week. Mike Byron met with the landlord on Friday morning hoping to work out their concerns, but was met with "prepared resistance." He was told that his volunteers had to b off the property by the end of the day; also, that if they tried to have the open house, the police would be called to remove them.

A local couple stepped up the plate and donated their house. E-mails weren sent, and I believe it went pretty well. Due to prior commitments, I couldn't attend.

They plan to explore legal avenues to fight this "eviction."
