Edwards returns to Kansas _ in daylight _ to rally supporters
LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP)

Supporters stood in the dark as the John Kerry- John Edwards campaign train sped through town in the wee hours of Saturday. They got their chance to spend time with half the ticket Sunday when Edwards and his family paid a makeup call in a rare Democratic foray into a traditionally Republican stronghold.

"Y'all called this rally, and we're glad to be here with you," Elizabeth Edwards told more than 750 supporters packed into an old factory turned restaurant on the banks of the Kansas River.

Campaign officials said the train carrying Kerry and Edwards from Kansas City, Mo., to New Mexico had been supposed to slow down in Lawrence, allowing the candidates to greet and say a few words to the more than 1,000 supporters.

Edwards said Sunday that everyone knew the plan except for the conductor. Chagrinned, the campaign carved time out of the schedule for Edwards to return to Kansas.

just stupid?

2. I loved this in Edwards' convention speech and here it
is again..

"Edwards dismissed that history. "There is no red state, there's no blue state, only one United States," he said."

7. Those were Baracks words...what a great speaker and I am
glad to hear those words repeated by the team.....this is such a great team....

I am so glad they went back to a red state.... I would love to see them go to more red states.....they are so good ..

And after reading the harry truman acceptance speech the other night on du.....we really are at the same turning point.....and these guys can make a difference....

Edwards family brings such a down home flavor to the whole campaign....and they are being treated as a teammmmm...... I love that about Kerry...he has the ability to bring the whole team together...

4. How could you not vote for such nice people.
Repugs would only do this for a photo op. No pictures here. Just a nice man. I'm proud....

and I'm lookin' good. That's me in the red coat. Nambe posted a picture of me at a protest a year or two ago and I got mad at her but now I like it! What the hell, she's my boss!

16. Absolutely...
Notice what it says about "undesirable discharge?" It's a google-bomb. If you use it as your sig line, Google will pick up the words and anybody typing them in will be directed to W's bio.

You may notice that a lot of DU'ers have "miserable failure" linked to the same page. Go to Google, type "miserable failure" and watch what comes up first in the search!

8. This newspaper was so positive about our team....it may be a red
state now but this paper showed lots of pictures and have the video of speech and the speech was going to be rebroadcase on a local cable channel...

that is VERY positive support for kerry/edward team.

This really shows you there are no red states. This is BIG....What a great story and the coverage is STUPENDOUS.!!!!!!!! :):):):):

9. I'm not big on Edwards, but that was GOOD
Very impressive. That won't put Kansas in our column, but that is going to make a lot of Kansans think. Its going to get a lot of free media play and may affect votes inside and - more importantly - outside of Kansas.

Excellent showing on the Edwards' part.

10. The coverage
The coverage of this occurence was absurd. Stories were claiming Kerry/Edwards "slighted" the crowd, and made an "apology" visit. As if they were being elitist snobs by failing to stop for an unexpected crowd in the middle of the night. The right-wing media strikes again.

12. A Friend of Mine Was There
3,000 to 4,000 people showed up. In the rain.

When the train went thru at 1:00 in the morning there were about 1,000 people there.

Friend said that Edwards "Is a Real Hunk"
