US should permit repatriation of social security benefits: CII study
NEW DELHI: India should push for a "totalisation" agreement with US, which would enable Indians returning from US to repatriate their social security benefits, according to a corporate study. The call for an agreement comes at a time when India is putting up a free-trade proposal on services with US.

"A totalisation agreement should be finalised as soon as possible," says a CII study called ‘India and US: Economic Analysis and Trade Strategy'. This pact will enable Indian workers to avoid double contribution and will also make entitlement to social security benefits easier.

1. double contribution
Maybe this means they have to pay into both countries' systems.

As a self-employed person, I pay what could be called a double contribution because I'm responsible for both the employee's part and the employer's part.

2. Another thing I wonder about:

if I, a U.S. citizen, decide to move to India, do I get to take my Social Security with me in lump sum?

on edit:
When an India citizen comes here, do they bring their retirement from India with them?
